What is Snoop Dogg’s real name?
Snoop Dogg, byname of Cordozar Calvin Broadus, Jr., also called Snoop Doggy Dogg and Snoop Lion, (born October 20, 1971, Long Beach, California, U.S.), American rapper and songwriter who became one of the best-known figures in gangsta rap in the 1990s and was for many the epitome of West Coast hip-hop culture.
Nuthin’ but a ‘G’ Thang
Snoop Dogg’s signature stretched lyrics were inspired by his early encounters with the law. After high school, he spent several years in prison before seriously pursuing a career in hip-hop. Eventually, famed producer and rapper Dr. Dre, who featured him on his single Deep Cover and his seminal album The Chronic (both 1992). Snoop’s outstanding vocals on the hit singles “Dre Day” and “Nuthin’ but a ‘G’ Thang” fueled a rapid rise to stardom. His own album Doggystyle (1993) became the first debut album to debut at number one on the Billboard 200 chart.

During the recording of Doggystyle, Snoop was arrested in connection with a drive-by shooting. Although he was eventually acquitted of all charges, the incident involved him in court for years and contributed to a long delay before the release of his next album, Tha Doggfather (1996). It was around this time that the gangsta rap movement was beginning to ebb. For a few years, Snoop’s records failed to generate excitement comparable to his debut, but his carefully cultivated — and sometimes caricatured — public persona made him a popular icon. His West Coast slang and exaggerated verbal tics became part of popular American vocabulary.
In 2012, Snoop announced that he had adopted the name Snoop Lion due to his support of the Rastafarian movement. A year later he released the reggae album Reincarnated under this name. Also in 2013 he collaborated (under the name Snoopzilla) with funk musician Dâm Funk on the album 7 Days of Funk. He resumed the Snoop Dogg name for the Pharrell Williams-produced funk and R&B release Bush (2015). Snoop returned to rap for Neva Left (2017) and followed with a double album of gospel music, Snoop Dogg Presents Bible of Love (2018). After this detour, he released the rap album I Wanna Thank Me (2019). In 2022, Snoop was among a group of hip-hop stars — including Dr. Dre, Eminem and Mary J. Blige – who performed at the Super Bowl halftime show.

What is Dr Dre worth?
Although Dre is often dubbed the hip-hop world’s first billionaire, divorce papers filed with L.A. Superior Court on Nov. 18 place his net worth at $458.2 million, with $182.7 million of that sum in cash, $6.3 million in stocks, and $269.2 million in property and assets, including intellectual property.
Nuthin’ but a ‘G’ Thang
dr Dre and his ex-wife, Nicole Young, reached a massive divorce settlement on Tuesday that will see Young exit their 24-year marriage with $100 million. Sources familiar with the settlement tell Rolling Stone that the two sides have finalized the terms of their split, with the Death Row Records co-founder giving up more than a fifth of his fortune and roughly half of his cash and cash equivalents. Young must move out of her Malibu beach house by the end of the month, but is keeping a Rolls Royce, Range Rover, Escalade sedan and Spyder motorcycle, along with all of her jewelry.
The $100 million settlement concludes 18 months of divorce proceedings that were fought in the press after Young’s filing in June 2020 and Dre’s attempt to enforce a 1996 prenup he had signed under “duress.” (The couple share two adult children, Truice and Truly.)
Over the past year and a half, the battle between the 56-year-old rapper and producer – whose real name is Andre Romelle Young – and Nicole Young, 51, has aired plenty of dirty laundry. Nicole claimed in court filings that Dre kicked her out of her home in early April and “planned to secretly transfer her assets to deny Nicole her equal share.” She also accused him of multiple counts of domestic violence, including pointing a gun to his head twice and beating him in the head and face, all of which he denied. In April, Nicole won her bid to force three of Dre’s alleged lovers – Jillian Speer, Kili Anderson and Crystal Rogers – to testify in the case. Likewise, in September, Dre filed a separate lawsuit alleging that Nicole stole $353,571.85 from the coffers of Recording One’s Sherman Oaks studio.
Legal observers say the turning point in the case came earlier this year when Spector successfully pushed to have Laura Wasser, another superstar divorce lawyer, removed from Dre’s team. Spector and Wasser have had feuds in the past, most notably over Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s divorce (Wasser represented Depp while Spector was on Heard’s team). Likewise, Howard King, who had represented the couple in previous legal matters, was barred from representing Dre in the divorce. As a result, Anne Kiley, whose client includes Brad Pitt, took over as head of Dre’s legal team.
With Wasser and King out, Nicole added more firepower to her legal team, bringing in attorneys Lisa Helfend Meyer and Bryan Freedman to unravel intellectual property issues given the record producer’s vast music library created during the pair’s union. According to Tuesday’s settlement, Wasser and King agreed to pay Nicole $50,000 each to settle any claims between them. Both Dre and Nicole have agreed not to contest the agreement. A source close to the rapper told Rolling Stone he was delighted with the settlement.
Though Dre is often credited as hip-hop’s first billionaire, divorce papers filed Nov. 18 in L.A. Superior Court put his net worth at $458.2 million, with $182.7 million of that in cash, $6.3 million in stock and $269.2 million in property and assets, including intellectual property. Dre was believed to be worth significantly more after Apple bought its Beats Electronics for $3 billion in 2014; His stake was reportedly worth $800 million at the time. The reason for the discrepancy is unclear.

What song did Dre Day sample?
The song’s bassline is a slowed interpolation from Funkadelic’s song “(Not Just) Knee Deep.” The chorus includes vocals by two more Death Row Records artists, R&B singer Jewell and rapper RBX. Also included is a sample and an interpolation from George Clinton’s song “Atomic Dog.”
Nuthin’ but a ‘G’ Thang
“Fuck Wit Dre Day (And Everybody’s Celebratin’)” or as a single titled “Dre Day” is a rap song by record producer and rapper Dr. Dre from Los Angeles with rapper Snoop Doggy Dogg and was released in May 1993 as the second single from Dre’s debut solo album The Chronic. “Dre Day” was a diss track primarily aimed at Dre’s former groupmate Eazy-E, who ran her one-time rap group N.W.A and co-owned N.W.A’s record label, Ruthless Records, with N.W.A’s manager Jerry Heller. In “Dre Day” and its music video, where Eazy is accused of cheating on N.W.A. artists, Dre and Snoop humiliate and threaten him. Also included are disses covering previous disses on songs by Miami rapper Luke Campbell, New York rapper Tim Dog and former N.W.A. Member Ice Cube, although while still an NWA member, Dre first helped diss Cube. After “Dre Day” a number of other diss records were exchanged.
Analysis [edit]
On the Billboard Hot 100 chart of most popular songs in June 1993, “Dre Day” peaked at number eight, while The Chronic’s lead single, “Nuthin’ but a ‘G’ Thang,” peaked at number two. The song’s bass line is a slowed down interpolation from Funkadelic’s song “(Not Just) Knee Deep”. The chorus features vocals from two other Death Row Records artists, R&B singer Jewell and rapper RBX. Also included is a sample and interpolation from George Clinton’s song “Atomic Dog”.
A diss track, “Dre Day”, was primarily aimed at Dre’s former N.W.A groupmate Eazy-E. But it also dissed New York rapper Tim Dog for his song “Fuck Compton.” It was also reciprocated by Miami rapper Luke Campbell, a member of the group 2 Live Crew whose debut solo album I Got Shit On My Mind featured the track Fakin’ Like Gangstas. Some “Dre Day” lyrics allude to former N.W.A. rapper Ice Cube, whose departure from the group was acrimonious in 1989 when he verbally threatened Cube by Dre while groupmate MC Ren was performing N.W.A.’s dated “Alwayz into Somethin'” single April 1991, he rapped back to Cube’s October 1991 track “No Vaseline.”
In “Dre Day,” Dre vows to “sneak into South Central,” Ice Cube’s hometown, on a Street Knowledge mission, while Cube’s own record label was originally called Street Knowledge Productions. Dre “steps into the temple,” apparently alluding to Cube’s affiliation with the Nation of Islam, and claims to “recognize” him by a “White Sox hat” that Cube often donned. Earlier this year Cube had the single “Check Yo Self”. Dre adds, “If you’re trying to check my home, you best check yourself.” Not parodied in the “Dre Day” music video, Cube instead appeared in the September music video for the next and final Chronic single, “Let Me Ride.” 1993, signaling the reconciliation with Dre.
music video[edit]
dr Dre directed the music video parodying Eazy-E as “Sleazy-E”, played by actor A.J. Johnson with an overdone Jheri Curl hairstyle, plaid shirt and dark sunglasses. The song performance is preceded by a skit in which Sleazy-E enters the office of Useless Records, where a plump white guy hires him to find some rappers. This impersonation of Jerry Heller, co-owner of Eazy-E’s Ruthless Records, was played by Interscope Records executive Steve Berman. (Berman later starred in three Eminem sketches and one D12 sketch.)
An interlude shows Sleazy-E introducing his manager to two newly acquired protégés, played by Bushwick Bill and Warren G. In other scenes, Sleazy stops gunfire, becomes homeless, is chased by gunmen, and finally holds up a cardboard sign on the Pasadena Freeway , with WILL RAP FOR FOOD scrawled on it. The “Dre Day” video also parodies Luther Campbell as a music artist with missing teeth jumping around on stage. In 2005, a poll by MTV2 and XXL ranked the music video “Dre Day” at number 12 on the “25 Greatest West Coast Videos”.[4]
Artist Responses[ edit ]
The B-side of the Dre Day single “Puffin’ on Blunts and Drankin’ Tanqueray” featuring The Lady of Rage and Tha Dogg Pound contains more insults from Dr. Dre vs. Eazy-E, Tim Dog, and Luke, while Kurupt disses Ruthless Records rappers Above the Law and Kokane. On Kokane’s second album, he and Above the Law member Cold 187um responded with “Don’t Bite the Funk”. Eazy-E’s EP entitled It’s On (Dr. Dre) 187um Killa contains the song “Exxtra Special Thankz”, the song “It’s On”, the song “Still a Nigga” and the song “Real Muthaphuckkin G’s”, featuring a new recording artists BG Knocc Out and Dresta.
“Real Muthaphuckkin G’s” became Eazy-E’s biggest hit as a solo artist. His music video imports from the “Dre Day” music video the character Sleazy-E, who in Eazy-E’s music video still holds up a WILL RAP FOR FOOD sign at the side of the road, but is later chased through town and dragged into a van. and eventually lies motionless in its former spot on the side of the road or, in the video’s radio edit, eventually falls flat as it walks near a Leaving Compton street sign. On the soundtrack of the short film Murder Was the Case, Snoop Dogg and Tha Dogg Pound responded with “What would you do?” while the music video parodies Eazy-E’s charges BG Knocc Out and Dresta himself being chased and beaten by Tha Dogg Pound.
Tim Dog responded to “Dre Day” with an EP entitled Bitch With a Perm, including the title track, and “Dog Baby,” which spawned a music video featuring a dancing Snoop Dogg facial expression with straightened hair and a “perm” hairstyle . Luther Campbell responded with the song “Cowards in Compton” from his second solo album, whose music video both parodies Dre’s incorporation into the 1980s electro-rap group World Class Wreckin’ Cru and casts Dre and Snoop lookalikes, who appear in a Mocking the “Nuthin’ but” will be a ‘G’ Thang” music video. Luke’s album “In The Nude” also featured a skit “Dre’s Momma Needs a Haircut” which is based on the skit “Tha Shiznit” from Snoop’s solo debut or album “Doggystyle” in November 1993. Compton rapper Tweedy Bird Loc took on Luke on his second album in 1994 by issuing “Fucc Miami”.

Top 10 richest rappers in the world
Where else to start but at the top? Here are the ten richest rappers in the world based on their net worth.
1. Kanye West
It should come as no surprise that Kanye West ranks number one. You have to be at least a little rich to land the likes of Kim Kardashian!
Kanye West’s net worth is over $6.6 billion, and he didn’t get it all from just rapping. West also has a clothing brand and is a record producer.
2. Jay Z
In second place is Jay-Z, who, like Kanye West, is not only a rapper but also an entrepreneur. Jay-Z’s net worth is $1.3 billion and he used to be number one until April 2020 when he was overtaken by West.
3. Sean Combs (P Diddy)
Sean Combs is a famous rapper better known by his stage name “P Diddy”. P Diddy’s net worth is currently around $900 million.
4. Dr. dr
Of course Dr. Dre in top 10 richest rappers! The net worth of Dr. Dre is currently $780 million, just behind P Diddy. Most of it is his invention of Beats by Dr. Credit to Dre, which he sold to Apple for $3 billion.
5. Eminem
At number 5 is Eminem, which might come as a surprise to those who thought he would be much further up the list. Eminem’s net worth is currently $230 million making him the richest white rapper in the world.
6. Master P
A little less well known than the top 5, Master P is ranked 5th on the list of the richest rappers. Master P’s net worth is $200 million, some of which comes from his years as a professional basketball player. Like many others on the list, Master P is an entrepreneur with his own record label and has even written a book.
7. Pharrell Williams
Technically, Pharrell Williams’ net worth is also $200 million, which puts him in second place with Master P. He also owns a record label as well as several other companies with involvement in the music and fashion worlds.
8. Drake
Drake’s net worth is $180 million, which puts him at number 8 on our list. Most of his money comes from a combination of acting on a popular television series called Degrassi: The Next Generation and rapping.
9. Ice cubes
Ice Cube net worth is $160 million. He made his fortune not only as a solo rapper, but also through his time in hip-hop groups in the 1980s and 1990s, as well as through his acting career.
10.Lil Wayne
The last of the ten richest rappers is none other than Lil’ Wayne. Lil’ Wayne’s net worth is currently $150 million, just a touch behind Ice Cube.
Other rich rappers
Now that we’ve covered the top 10, let’s take a look at the next 15 richest rappers in the world.
11. Snoop Dogg
You forgot about Snoop Dogg, right? Surprisingly, he is 11th on the list. Snoop Dogg’s net worth is $150 million, which technically ties him at number 10 with Lil Wayne. Snoop Dogg is perhaps best known for his song “Drop it Like It’s Hot.”
12. Swiss Beatz
Swizz Beats net worth is also $150 million, which puts him in the same ranks as Snoop Dog and Lil Wayne. Swizz Beats is best known for its song “Money in the Bank”.
13. LL Cool J
Next on the list is LL Cool J, who didn’t place 10th like the previous 3 rappers. LL Cool J’s net worth is currently $120 million, most of which comes from his breakthrough career in pop rap.
14. Birdman
Birdman is known for his record label Cash Money Record and has a net worth of $100 million. This puts him second on our list.
15. Pit bull

16. Ad Rock
Ad Rock doesn’t have much of a solo career, but you’ve probably heard of him since he’s part of the group Beastie Boys. Ad Rock’s net worth is currently $90 million.
17. Mike D
Mike D is another member of the band Beastie Boys, so it’s no shock that he’s next on the list. Mike D’s net worth is $90 million which makes him an exact match to fellow band member Ad Rock.
18.Nicki Minaj
The first woman on this list is none other than Nicki Minaj. Known for collaborating with many artists, Nicki Minaj has a net worth of $85 million, putting him right behind the Beastie Boys.
19. Timbaland
It’s a bit odd that Timbaland didn’t make the list before number 19, as his song “The Way I Are” was a huge hit in the early ’00s. Timbaland net worth is $85 million which links him to Nicki Minaj.
20. Akon
Another surprisingly low rapper on the list is Akon, who lands at number 20. Akon’s net worth is $80 million and he is best known for his song “Smack That.”
21. Kendrick Lamar
Kendrick Lamar is not just a rapper as many around the world consider him to be a positive influence on rappers around the world. Kendrick Lamar’s net worth is $75 million but he’s new to the industry so who knows, maybe in a few years he’ll be vying with Kanye West for first place!
22. Will.i.am
Will.i.am is best known for his career, which began with the group The Black-Eyed Peas, but he has since transitioned to solo performance. Will.i.am’s net worth is $75 million which puts him in line with newbie Kendrick Lamar.
23. Nas
Nas has long been popular in the rap world and has released no less than 12 studio albums. Nas net worth is $70 million, which puts him 23rd on this list.
24. Speed run
Rev Run, like many on this list, is not only a rapper but also a producer and TV show personality. With a net worth of $60 million, he’s clearly doing something right, ranking 24th on this list.
25. Ice T
Last on our list is Ice T, who is both a rapper extraordinaire and a longtime character on the TV show Law and Order SVU. Ice T’s net worth is $60 million.
Honorable Mention: Usher
You may have noticed that Usher wasn’t on that list. Although Usher’s net worth is $180 million, many don’t consider him a career rapper but more of an R&B artist. However, the decision is ultimately yours, and if you think Usher belongs in the rapper kingdom, he would be the 8th richest rapper in the world.
Why is Snoop Dogg so rich?
When you combine the revenue he has generated from album sales, film performances, concert tours, music productions, social video website and other investments, it becomes pretty evident the path that Snoop has traveled in order to reach his current net worth of $143 million.

Snoop Dogg 1 2 3 and to the 4 lyrics
[Verse 1: Snoop Dogg & Dr. dr]One, two, three and four
Snoop Doggy Dogg and Dr. Dre are at the door
Ready for a performance, so back up
‘Cause you know we’re about to break shit
First give me the microphone so I can burst like a bubble
Compton and Long Beach together, now you know you’re in trouble
Ain’t nothing but a G-Tang, baby
Two located n^^Gas goes crazy
Death Row is the label that pays me
Unfading so please don’t try to fade that (hell yeah)
But, um, back to the lecture
Perfection is perfected, so I’ll let you understand
From the perspective of a young G
And before I dig up a b^^ch I need to find a contraceptive
You never know, she might earn her man and learn her man
And burn her husband at the same time
Well, you know I don’t agree with that, Lieutenant
Ain’t no p^^sy good enough to burn while I’m in (Yeah)
And that’s more real than Real deal Holyfield
And now you bitches and whores know how I feel
Well, if it’s good enough to break off a decent chunk
I’ll take a little piece of this funky stuff
[Choir: Dr. Dre & Snoop Dogg, Snoop Dogg]It’s like this and like that and like that and –
It’s like this and like that and like that and –
It’s like this and like that and like that and –
Dre, sneak up on the mic like a phantom
[Verse 2: Dr. dr]Well I’m peeping and I’m crawling and I’m crawling
But I almost got caught because my beeper kept beeping
Now it’s time for me to make my impression
So sit back, relax and buckle up
You’ve never been on a ride like this before
With a producer who can rap and control the mic
At the same time with the dope rhyme I kick
You know and I know I run some old crazy shit
Add to my collection, the selection
Symbolizes drugs, take a hit but don’t choke
If you do, you have no idea
Which me and my homie Snoop Dogg came to
[Choir: Both & Dr. Dre & Snoop Dogg]It’s like this and like that and like that and –
It’s like this and like that and like that and –
It is, and who cares?
So just chill until the next episode
[Chorus: Kid Dynamite, Public Enemy & Congress Alley]you got the feeling
Rock the other side
You got the feeling (Yeah, yeah)
[Verse 3: Snoop Dogg & Dr. Dre & Both]Fallin’ back on that a^^ with a hell of a gangsta lean
At the mic it gets funky like an old bunch of kale
It’s the big S, oh yeah I’m fresh, N, double O, P
D, O, double G, Y, D, O, double G, see
Show a lot of flexibility when it’s time to destroy a microphone
Pimp hoes and do a hold like my name is Dolemite
Yes, and it doesn’t stop
I think they in the mood for a motherf^^kin’ G s^^t (Hell yeah)
So, Dre (What’s up, Dogg?)
Gotta give ’em what they want (What’s that, G?)
We gotta break something off them (hell yeah)
And it must rumble (City of Compton)
[Verse 4: Dr. dr]Where it takes place, so if asked, get your attention
Mobbin’ like a motherf^^ker, but I don’t lynch
Droppin’ the funky s^^t that makes the sucker mumble n^^gas
When I’m on the mic it’s like a cookie, they all crumble
Try to get close and your A^^ will be hit
My fucking homie Doggy Dogg is standing behind me
Don’t ever let me slip, ’cause if I slip, I’ll slip
But when I have my Nina, then you know that I stumble straight
And I’ll keep putting down the rap, putting down the Mac
And if you talk shit, I have to put the swatter down
Yes, and you don’t stop
I told you I’m like a clock as I tick and tick
But I’m never gone, always until dawn
C-O-M-P-T-O-N and the town they call Long Beach
Puttin’ the s^^t together
Like my n^^ga D.O.C. no one can do it better
[Choir: Both & Dr. Dre & Snoop Dogg]So, that and that and a—
It’s like this and like that and like that and –
It is, and who cares?
So just chill until the next episode
[Outro: Kid Dynamite, Public Enemy & Congress Alley]you got the feeling
Rock the other side
You got the feeling (Yeah, yeah)
you got the feeling
Rock the other side
You got the feeling (Yeah, yeah)
you got the feeling
Rock the other side
You got the feeling (Yeah, yeah)

Dr. Dre – Nuthin’ But a “G” Thang Lyrics
“Nuthin’ But a ‘G’ Thang” was the lead single from Dr. Dre’s debut solo album, The Chronic, and highlighted the appearance of Snoop Doggy Dogg following their first collaboration, Deep Cover, released a few months earlier. The beat is based on a sample from Leon Haywood’s 1975 track “I Want’a Do Something Freaky To You”. Dre also directed the music video, which featured guest appearances by Daz, Warren G and The D.O.C.
“Nuthin’ But a ‘G’ Thang” is considered one of the greatest hip-hop songs of all time. The single achieved platinum status after hitting #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and topping the Hot Rap Songs and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs charts. In 1994, the song was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group. It was ranked number 427 on Rolling Stone’s list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time, was included on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s list of 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll, and was named the greatest rap song of the ’90s by XXL magazine chosen.
Musician Colin Wolfe spoke about how the song came about:
I believe Warren G. brought the Leon Haywood sample for “Nuthin” but a “G” thang. In fact, I was the first to hear the lyrics. Snoop was in jail and used to call the house a lot. I picked it up once and Snoop was like, “Yo man, I just wrote this rap called ‘G’ Thang.” Try it — tell me if you think Dre gon will like it.” He got it for me and rapped me said, “Hell fuckin’ yeah!” We had to record this song three times, I think one time the tape was left in the car and broke. Another time it was accidentally deleted. The only live instrument there was me playing the string [synthesizer] part and the live bass. Dre added an 808 to the kick to make it hit harder.
A scene in the 2015 N.W.A. biopic Straight Outta Compton recreated the making of the song:
Nuthin’ but a ‘G’ Thang
1992 single from Dr. Dre with Snoop Doggy Dogg
“Nuthin’ but a ‘G’ Thang” is a song by American rapper Dr. Dre with fellow American rapper Snoop Doggy Dogg on Dre’s debut solo album The Chronic (1992). The album’s lead single, “Nuthin’ but a ‘G’ Thang,” reached #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 on March 20, 1993, behind Snow’s “Informer”[7] and topped The Chronic’s other singles, “Fuck wit Dre Day (And Everybody’s Celebratin’)”, which peaked at No. 8, and “Let Me Ride”, which peaked at No. 34. The single also reached #1 on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart and was a hit in the UK, where it peaked at #31.
The song was selected by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as one of the 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll.[8] XXL magazine named it the top hip-hop song of the decade. The song samples “I Want’a Do Something Freaky to You” by Leon Haywood. In June 1994 it was re-released in some European countries.
music video[edit]
The music video directed by Dr. Dre[9] shows Dre coming to Long Beach, California to pick up Snoop and go to a block party. They join the party and play the opening verses with a barbecue cookout and a nearby game of volleyball. A player’s bikini top (Mercedes Ashley)[10] is pulled down by “T-Dubb”, a founding member of the Long Beach rap group Foesum, exposing her breasts. For the next verses they go inside. A small sequence of events shows a snobbish partygoer being humiliated by being sprayed with shaken malt liquor. The video ends with Dre dropping Snoop off at his house while Snoop stumbles up the driveway. The MTV edit censors nudity, drug paraphernalia, Warren G with a blunt copyrighted logo, a Chicago White Sox baseball cap, and on-screen text. Many artists have appeared in videos including The D.O.C., Warren G, Daz Dillinger, Kurupt, RBX and Suga Free.
In popular culture[edit]
In 2006, rapper Young Dro sampled the music video for Shoulder Lean. Taylor Gang member Chevy Woods also sampled 30 Deep for his music video.
In the 2015 biopic Straight Outta Compton, the song is shown as performed by Snoop Dogg (Lakeith Stanfield) and Dr. Dre (Corey Hawkins) is improvised.[15]
The song was used towards the end of the Fresh Off The Boat episode “Boy II Man”.
The song appears in the video game Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.[16]
Awards[edit]
“Nuthin’ but a ‘G’ Thang” is listed in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll. It is Dre’s only song on Rolling Stone’s list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time, which ranks at number 419, not counting two other songs with Dre on production and vocals, N.W.A.’s “Fuck tha Police” and Tupac’s “California”. Love”. Q magazine listed it as the 24th greatest hip-hop song of all time. In September 2010, Pitchfork Media ranked it #3 on their Top 200 Tracks of the ’90s.[18]
criticism [edit]
In 1998, CBS reported that Senator Sam Brownback (R-Kansas), requesting a hearing in the Senate Commerce Science and Transportation Committee, said he was “concerned that the music industry is marketing its most violent and misogynistic music to teenagers.” The report added, “While industry executives claim that children are protected from this music, much evidence suggests that most hyper-violent albums are bought by children.” Advisory labels were a result of the hearings.[19]
Musically, the funk orientation in hip-hop is often associated with “Nuthin’ but a ‘G’ Thang,” but its roots were laid by another rap group, Above the Law. “Nuthin’ But a G Thang echoes Above the Law’s Never Missin’ a Beat” [sic], according to a 2016 article in The Guardian.[20] Both groups interpolated Parliament-Funkadelic’s signature funk grooves.
