What Breed Is Best For Me? (somali, Ragdoll, Maine Coon And More)

Wow, so many new answers! I’m amazed at how friendly and vibrant this community is. Thanks for the input everyone, I’ll address each individual answer below! rubysmama : Thank you for the warm welcome! I just looked at this link and there seems to be a lot of helpful information there, beyond the typical information you find in cat books or on specific breed websites. Thank you for pointing out this great resource! sargon : Thanks for the good wishes! Yes, I agree that the traits I’ve chosen are a bit difficult to combine – I’ve also noticed that active cats are not lap cats and vice versa. I think overall as long as the cat is either an active and trainable cat or a cuddly lap cat I’d be fine with that, although having a bit of both would be a dream come true! I have actually researched Siamese cats as they seem to be an incredibly smart, affectionate, playful and fun breed! Also, if you can judge Youtube videos, they are a cat to talk to. But yeah, they would probably get a bit too much for me over time, even though they look like they could be so much fun. Is the cute face in your avatar your Siamese by any chance? rosegold : Oh my god I can’t believe I didn’t think of a Norwegian before! Your girl sounds amazing, it’s wonderful that she is playful, cuddly and loving, she seems such a sweet and even-tempered cat! You are very lucky to have her. My neighbors used to have a Norwegian outdoor cat who was also super friendly – she would go for walks, follow her family off leash and sometimes sit on my lap when I was visiting. I remember the furry tumbleweeds he was able to produce during molting season, but his awesome personality made it all worth it! I’ll definitely look around for Norwegians when I’m looking for cats! Grey_Tuxedo , Friend’s Friend, Ghoulofnagoya: Thanks everyone for the detailed feedback on Maine Coons! It seems like everywhere I go there are always groups of people raving about this breed! It was nice to hear from Simon, he sounds like a wonderful cat and a cute cuddle bug on cold nights! Sandy sounds great too, I’m really glad to hear that there are actually Maine Coons like her out there that like laps and cuddles as I’ve also heard some people say they are more independent cats. Thanks also for the tip on Ragdolls, that seems to be consistent with what I’ve heard about this breed. I’m also happy to hear that Maine Coons don’t need a lot of brushing! It sounds very manageable. I wish I could hug all your cats! RajaNMizu : Thanks for voting for a shelter cat! I adore cats who are natural retrievers and yours sounds so smart and playful! You are very lucky to have her and she is very lucky that you saved her. Having shelter staff to provide clues as to each cat’s personality sounds like a huge help, and I think it’s the best way to find a cat with a specific personality! At the moment I think I’ve definitely made a big impression on Maine Coons and Norwegians with all the positive reviews they’ve gotten! Since the cat’s personality is a big priority for me, I’ll probably start looking at some shelters and maybe try to find Maine Coon or Norwegian crossbreeds. If that doesn’t work, I look for breeders. Thanks again everyone for the advice and don’t hesitate to keep sharing your breed opinions and stories about your cats, I love reading them!
