What is Spin the Bottle game for kids?

For those of you who are unfamiliar (born after 2000), spin the bottle is a party game where everyone sits in a circle, and then you take a bottle (generally an empty water or soda bottle if you were underage in the ’90s) and take turns spinning it.

Spin the bottle

Spin the Bottle was the party game of the 90’s. I don’t know what kids do at parties these days, but I’m assuming there’s an app for that. For those of you who don’t know (born after 2000), Spin the Bottle is a party game where everyone sits in a circle and then takes a bottle (generally an empty water or soda bottle if you were a minor in the 90’s) . and rotate it alternately. They must then kiss whoever the bottle is pointing at when it stops spinning. Sometimes there are rules for the “levels” of kissing. So for every other single person in the circle, you would start with a kiss on the cheek, then on the lips, then on the tongue. Which was great when you didn’t want to kiss certain people, but horrible when you just bumped your crush on the cheek.

’90s parties were full of bad decisions like spin the bottle, Ouija boards, and blue hair mascara. Within those bad decisions, there were more bad decisions, and many terrible decisions had to be made during a Spin the Bottle game. You cringe when you think of these 13 things you did while spinning the bottle in the ’90s.

1. Kissed people you weren’t interested in

Every spin of the bottle meant kissing people you didn’t really want to kiss. It’s unclear exactly why we underwent this, considering the following…

2. You missed kissing your crush when that was the only reason you played

Obviously, the main reason you put up with kissing people you didn’t mean to kiss was the unlikely chance that you could kiss the person you did want to kiss. It left a lot to chance, and most of the time that didn’t work in your favor.

3. Try to “strategically” spin the bottle

Thinking you could play “God” with the bottle and strategically rotate it to stop it in the right place was the 90’s run.

4. Prayed to the spirit of Kurt Cobain

The other thing you did at parties in the ’90s was seances to revive Kurt Cobain’s spirit. Who you would secretly pray to to help you spin the bottle.

5. Got a lip smash in someone’s face

It wasn’t a ’90s party unless your lips were covered in the stickiest lip gloss you could find. This would unknowingly end up in someone else’s face during Spin the Bottle.

6. Getting someone else’s lip smacker in your face via a third party

… And sometimes you kiss someone who had someone else’s lip gloss on and you ended up covered in someone’s lip smacker you’ve never kissed!

7. Thought, “What would Rachel do?”

Rachel tried to spin the bottle to kiss her crush on Friends, so maybe you’d end up in a cheerleader costume somehow, too. I do not know.

8. Try to set the mood with the Romeo + Juliet soundtrack

Of course, the opportunity to kiss someone you liked required sexy moody music. What’s better in the ’90s than the Romeo + Juliet soundtrack?

9. What you thought were “bedroom eyes” turned your crush on

Because you were a teenager, you probably only looked like you were trying to hold back a fart, but still. points for trying.

10. Believed that the kiss really “meant something” when it was with your crush

As much as you hate kissing, not your crush, if you kiss your crush you would build it up to mean something so much more than a random occurrence in a game of chance.

11. Trying to sit sexy with your legs in a mermaid tail by your side

But in reality your butt went numb under you.

12. Kept in your pee for an unhealthy amount of time so you don’t miss your turn or your crush’s

You’ll never understand the pain of holding a pee longer than you’re healthy until you’ve held it during a game of spin the bottle. It’s a numbers game: the more you and your crush spun, the more chance you had of kissing. Going to the bathroom would mean fewer twists and therefore fewer kissing opportunities.

13. Was irrationally upset when your crush had to kiss someone else

Since it’s a game of chance, there really wasn’t any point in your crush kissing other people. That was inherent in the game… It’s not exactly a game of exclusivity. But that wouldn’t stop you from getting irrationally angry every time your crush had to kiss someone.

What is bottle made of?

A bottle is a narrow-necked container made of an impermeable material (such as glass, plastic or aluminium) in various shapes and sizes that stores and transports liquids.

A classic wine bottle

A bottle is a narrow-mouthed container made of an impermeable material (such as glass, plastic, or aluminum) of various shapes and sizes that holds and transports liquids. Its mouth at the bottling line can be closed with an internal stopper, an external bottle cap, a closure or an induction seal.[1]

etymology

First mentioned in a document in the 14th century. From the English word bottle derives from an Old French word boteille, from Vulgar Latin butticula, from Late Latin buttis (“barrel”), a Latinization of Greek βοῦττις (bouttis) (“vessel”).[2][3]

types

Glass

Wine

The glass bottle represented an important development in the history of wine because, in combination with a high-quality closure such as a cork, it allowed the wine to be aged for a long time. Glass has all the properties required for long-term storage. It eventually led to ‘castle bottling’, the practice of bottling a winery’s wine at the source rather than by a merchant. In the past, wine was sold in barrels (previously in amphorae) and, if at all, bottled at the dealer. This left great and often abused opportunities for fraud and adulteration as consumers had to trust the merchant for the content. It is believed that most wines consumed outside of wine-growing regions have been tampered with in some way. Also, not all retailers were careful to avoid oxidation or contamination during bottling, resulting in large bottle variations. Especially when it comes to port wine, certain conscientious traders still achieve higher prices for bottling old port wines. To avoid these problems, most fine wines are bottled on site (including all port wines, since 1974).

There are many sizes and shapes of bottles used for wine. Some of the known forms:

“Bordeaux”: This bottle has roughly straight sides with a curved “shoulder” useful for catching sediment and also the easiest to stack. Traditionally used in Bordeaux but now used worldwide, this is probably the most common type.

“Burgundy”: Traditionally used in Burgundy, this has sides that taper to a short cylindrical section at about 2/3 the height and has no shoulder.

“Champagne”: Traditionally used for champagne, it resembles a burgundy bottle but has a wider base and heavier construction to withstand the pressure of the sparkling wine’s fizz.

Codd neck

Codd Neck Bottle

In 1872, British soft drink maker Hiram Codd of Camberwell, London, designed and patented a bottle specifically designed for carbonated drinks. The Codd neck bottle is designed and manufactured to include a marble and rubber washer/seal in the neck. The bottles were filled upside down, and the pressure of the gas in the bottle pushed the marble against the washer, sealing in the fizz. The bottle was pressed into a special shape as shown in the photo to the left to create a chamber into which the marble was pushed to open the bottle. This kept the marble from blocking the neck as the drink was poured.

Soon after its introduction, the bottle became extremely popular in the soft drink and brewing industries, mainly in Europe, Asia and Australasia, although some alcohol drinkers disdained the use of the bottle. One etymology of the term codswallop comes from beer sold in codd bottles, although this is generally dismissed as folk etymology.

The bottles were regularly manufactured for many decades but gradually declined in use. Ever since children smashed the bottles to retrieve the marbles, they have become relatively rare and collectible; especially in the UK. A cobalt-colored Codd bottle fetches hundreds of pounds at auction today. The codd neck design is still used for the Japanese soft drink Ramune and the Indian drink called Banta.[5]

plastic

The plastic is stretch-oriented in the stretch blow molding process. Plastic bottles are typically used to store liquids such as water, soft drinks, motor oil, cooking oil, medicines, shampoo, milk and ink. The size ranges from very small sample bottles to very large carboys. The main advantages of plastic bottles over glass are their superior resistance to breakage in both manufacture and transportation, as well as their light weight and low production costs. Downsides include widespread plastic pollution.

aluminum

An aluminum bottle is a bottle made of aluminum (or aluminum outside of British English). In some countries it is also called “Bottlecan”. It usually holds beer, soft drinks, or wine.

Hot water

A hot water bottle is a bottle filled with hot water that is used for warmth. It can be made from a variety of materials, most commonly rubber, but has historically been made from harder materials such as metal, glass, earthenware, or wood.

Bottles are often recycled according to the SPI recycling code for the material.

How do you play the kissing game post office?

One group goes into another room, such as a bedroom, which is called “the post office.” To play, each person from the outer group individually visits “the post office.” Once there, they get a kiss from everyone in the room. They then return to the original room.

Spin the bottle

Post Office or Postman’s Knock is a kissing party game played at teenage parties. It has been featured in popular culture in the United States since at least the 1880s.[1]

How to play[edit]

The group game is divided into two groups – typically a girls group and a boys group. One group goes to another room, such as a bedroom, called “the post office.” To play, each person from the outer group visits “the post office” individually. Once there, they get a kiss from everyone in the room. They then return to the original room.

Once everyone in the first group has their turn, the other group starts sending members to the first room.

Variations[edit]

In the “postman” variant, a person chosen by a group to be the “postman” goes outside and knocks on the door. Another person is chosen from the rest of the group to open the door and pays for the “letter” with a kiss. Then another person is chosen to be the postman, etc. The game has many variations. In some versions, playing cards are used to choose which people will become postmen and which will in turn become responders.

In the Ponyexpress variant, the “post office” is a closet or another dark room. The game is played the same, but can become more intense. It is described in the 1954 film Phffft as “…the same as Post Office but with more ‘fooling around'”.

as “…the same as Post Office but with more ‘fooling around'”. In Sweden, the game is referred to as ryska posten (“Russian Post/Post Office”).

In popular culture[edit]

In Laura Ingalls Wilder’s autobiography Pioneer Girl, she lists games played at teenage parties, including “post office” and “kissing games”.

Published in 1929, Is Sex Necessary? by James Thurber and E. B. White repeatedly refers to the post office and to the possibly similar party game Pillow (see, for example, pp. 43 and pp. 49-50 of Dell’s 1964 edition [copyright 1950]).

In the 1930 short comedy Whispering Whoopee by Charley Chase, Charley hires three wild women to play post office with some elderly gentlemen to try and close a real estate deal.

In the 1932 film The Purchase Price, a group of married adults in a farming community throw a party (to welcome mail-order brides) and play post office. One of the women goes into a separate bedroom and then comes into the main room and announces that there are x letters and y postcards for [man’s name]. The man and woman go into the bedroom and presumably exchange kisses and hugs, then return to the main room to general hilarity.

In the 1932 film Huddle, a mixed group of high-spirited college students converse on a train. One of the young men says, “Let’s play mail.” One of the young women remarks, “That’s child’s play!” The young man then replies, “Not the way I play it!” The same gag (perhaps not original even then) is often used later, for example in the 1934 short Three Stooges Three Little Pigskins and in the 1941 Abbott and Costello film Hold That Ghost. The joke was a recurring one from Abbott and Costello. The joke has also been used in more recent times; in the 2013 film Gangster Squad, where Ryan Gosling’s character uses it for Emma Stone’s character.

In the 1936 Three Stooges short A Pain in the Pullman, when the Stooges are thrown out of the star’s drawing room, Curly says, “I thought she wanted to play post!”

The Post Office game is referenced in the 1936 film Postal Inspector.

In Wallace Stegner’s first novel Remembering Laughter (1937), set on an Iowa farm, the plot darkens after a party where mail is played – the game is the prelude to an emotional disaster.

In the 1938 film There’s Always a Woman, Joan Blondell’s character tries to prevent a police search of her home. When an officer searches a closet, she asks him what they’re looking for and he tells her “A letter,” to which she replies, “Imagine a tall man like you wanting to play post office!”

In the story “Three Hours Between Planes” by F. Scott Fitzgerald (written in 1939 and published in 1941), the mail is mentioned as a game that can arouse terrible jealousy in children.

In the 1939 film Hell’s Kitchen, Buck Caesar (Stanley Fields) informs the “Dead End Kids” that every Saturday at the boys’ home where they live is now treated as a “holiday” with “some nice, clean, healthy sport,” one of the boys stands up and says sarcastically, to the great amusement of the others, “Now don’t tell us you want us to play mail.”

In Osa Johnson’s 1940 autobiography I Married Adventure, she writes that her grandmother “was my self-styled companion from the moment she witnessed a kiss-the-pillow game at one of my birthday parties…” (p. 71).

In the 1941 film Ridin’ on a Rainbow, Gene Autry rescues a girl from the river. After taking them back to their cabin on the riverboat, a sailor who followed them said, “Let’s get out of here before they start playing post office.”

Docks of New York, a 1945 East Side Kids film, Huntz Hall questions Leo Gorcey about what an elderly, well-dressed man would have done if he’d snuck down the back alley with a large knife. Leo scratches his head as he tries to unravel the mystery and replies, “He wasn’t playing with the mail.”

In a 1948 episode of Lucille Ball’s radio show “My Favorite Husband,” characters play post office at a teenage dance.

In the 1950 short film So You Want to Throw a Party, Joe (George O’Hanlon) and Alice McDoakes plan to throw a party. Joe messes up inviting guests and at the party, the male attendees repeatedly play mail and only ever dial Alice into the room, much to Joe’s chagrin.

In an episode of I Love Lucy entitled “The Charm School” (aired January 25, 1954), Ethel mentions that Fred suggested they play post the night before when a handsome guest came to their dinner party.

In Season 2 Episode 2 of The Lucy Show episode titled “Kiddie Parties Inc.” Vivian says she played post office when she was young

In a 1954 television episode of The Jack Benny Program, starring Fred Allen, Benny is surprised by Allen hiding in a closet. When Benny asks what Allen is doing in the closet, Allen says, “Play ‘Post’. Kiss me!”

In a 1954 episode of The George Burns and Gracie Allen Show when Gracie Allen is running for city council, Gracie speaks with the police chief. Towards the end of the conversation he shakes her hand and says: “It’s been a real pleasure”. Gracie replies, “If you think shaking hands is fun, you’ve never played post office.”

In the best-selling 1956 novel Peyton Place, the main character Allison McKenzie’s 14th birthday is celebrated with a “kissing game” as “post pffice”.

In a 1957 episode of Leave it to Beaver “Party Invitation”, Beaver goes to an all-girl party. One of the girls suggests playing post office.

In J.D. Salinger’s Seymour: An Introduction (1959), Buddy describes himself and his brother as “homegrown”, as children, and how they were “expert recipients of bags of unsent letters” whenever the game was played at children’s parties.

In his unfinished novel, Answered Prayers, Truman Capote writes, “Kissing her, according to Dill, was like going to a post office with a dead and rotting whale: she really needed a dentist.”

In a 1967 episode of the sitcom Bewitched entitled “I Get Your Nannie, You Get My Goat”, Darrin’s boss Larry Tate disapproves of Darrin and Samantha kissing on a patio at a business event for a major advertiser. Suggesting that this could be seen as unprofessional and therefore embarrassing, Mr Tate says: ‘Don’t do that. What if someone sees you? … The someone I’m speaking of Darrin is Roy Chappell from Chappell Baby Foods I want to steer him over here so he can meet you and we can match the account. And I don’t want him to catch you at the post office.”

In the 1968 film Yours, Mine and Ours, Frank, played by Henry Fonda, goes on a date with a younger, free-loving hippie. The date is interrupted by Helen, played by Lucille Ball. As Frank and Helen complain about the issues they are having with their respective children, the hippie says, “Why don’t you drop me off at the exit so you can both play mail !“

In the 2002 film Sweet Home Alabama, Melanie, played by Reese Witherspoon, mentions playing a game of Post during their first meeting with her old boyfriend Bobby Ray, played by Ethan Embry, in high school.

In the Andy Griffith Show (Second Season) episode “Bailey’s Bad Boy”, Barney mentions that he plays “two-handed post office” at the end of the show.

In a 1975 episode of All in the Family entitled Edith’s Friend, Edith’s childhood sweetheart asks her if she remembers playing post office.

In 1981 will you be served? Christmas special “Roots?”, as someone discusses Mr Grace’s upcoming birthday, someone mentions the postman’s knock, prompting Mrs Slocombe to recall, “Me and Mrs Axleby played Postman’s Knock last year on my birthday! ” Mr. Klein remarks, “Aren’t you both a bit old for Postman’s Knock?” Mrs. Slocombe smiles shyly and says, “The postman didn’t think so!”

Previously, in the Season 4 episode “Oh, What a Tangled Web We Weave,” Mr. Humphries recalled playing the postman’s knock and getting the night watchman at this year’s Christmas party. Mr. Lucas told Mr. Humphries he was lucky because he ended up with Mrs. Slocum.

In the 1991 Bottom episode “Accident,” Richie suggests that he, Eddie, Spudgun, and Dave Hedgehog knock the postman at his birthday party, even though they are the only attendees.

In the 1991 episode of The Cosby Show entitled “Attack of the Killer B’s” (Season 7 Episode 15), Cliff suggests they play Post as they are after Clair talks about how they are during her college years at the post office has gone up.

The musical sketch from the 1993 Two Ronnies Christmas special features various characters from the Alice in Wonderland story who parody common Christmas traditions of the time. The Duchess (Ronnie Barker) quotes the King of Hearts as suggesting that the party “get mailmen knocking again.”[5]

At a society party in the 2008 film The Loss of a Pear-Shaped Diamond, Jimmy (Chris Evans) becomes the mailman in a game that makes outcast debutante Fisher Willow (Bryce Dallas Howard) jealous.

In the X-Files Season 7 episode “Closure,” Mulder and Scully are about to have a seance, and after Scully sarcastically comments that she hasn’t done one since high school, Mulder jokingly suggests that she becomes “a mailman ‘ and should play the role of Bottle.

In Episode 9 of Season 4, things were definitely not going well for Eddie Munson (Joseph Quinn), who was taken down by a small army of Vecna’s (Jamie Clayton Bower) killer bats. Max Mayfield (Sadie Sink) would have been the next main character to die had a group effort not momentarily subdued Vecna and Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) resurrected Max with her powers. However, Max ended the episode in a coma and with many broken bones, and there’s certainly no guarantee she’ll survive.

The season 4 part 2 finale also included two very important interactions between Max and Eleven that gave some clues as to what might be to come in Season 5 of Stranger Things.

Spin the bottle

A spin the bottle game

Spin the Bottle is a kissing party game played at teenage parties.

The game was very popular among teenagers in the second half of the 20th century because it encouraged “sexual” interactions between boys and girls. It’s even been described as “the party game of choice for gritty excited high schoolers.”[1] It has been described as a coming-of-age party game.[2]

Although the game is occasionally played by young teens or young adults, its popularity has declined since the 1980s.

The game [edit]

The game is played by several players sitting, standing or kneeling in a circle. A bottle is placed on the floor in the center of the circle. A player spins the bottle and must kiss the person the bottle is pointing to when it stops spinning. Alternatively, the person pointed to by the bottle must kiss the person at the back of the bottle.

There is a very large number of variants. A variation is that instead two players have to hug within five seconds, otherwise they have to kiss in 10 seconds and if the 10 seconds are up and they haven’t kissed they have to kiss. Variations allow other tasks to be accomplished. It can also be used to help players choose other games such as Truth or Dare or Seven Minutes in Heaven. Variations can also include penalties, such as B. Removal of a garment.

history [edit]

Written records of spin-the-bottle games date back to the 1920s, although early accounts make no mention of kissing.[3] Written records of a similar game called Bottle of Fortune have been available since 1922.[4]
