Stripes, Dots & Hearts Nail Art Tutorial
First of all, it’s important to make sure your nails are clean and ready for painting before we start, so we need to do a little prep. If you already have nail polish on, you will need to remove it with some nail polish remover. After that, I usually wash my hands just to make sure my nails are completely clean.
Then it’s time to organize your nails a bit and shape them to your liking with your file. If you want to make your nails appear longer, you can also push back your cuticles. Soaking your hand in warm water for a few minutes will help soften your skin, making it easier for you to do this.
Once you are done, you should apply a primer to your nail as this will protect your nails from discoloration but will also make your nail polish application much smoother. We used the Vitamin Base Coat (1) for this.

Anyone who has seen my blog knows how much I love bright colors! And if you follow my Instagram, you’ve probably seen me doing stripes and also dots a few times. Here are a few of my favorite designs:
This is Essie Lapiz of Luxury with Essie Tart Deco. I love this color combo and the dots remind me of… dinosaur spots for whatever reason!
For this design, I started with white as the base. I used my Ulta Orly Striping Brush to make stripes in Orly Glowstick, Orly Melt Your Popsicle, Zoya Charisma, China Glaze Pool Party and China Glaze I’m With The Lifeguard. Streaks take a bit of practice, and some thicker shades are hard to get your finger on… but you can always use your base color or another color to balance the sides!
