To all TrackMania Nations Forever players with a free account, the in-game advertising revenue has been in trouble for a year and Microsoft is even shutting it down. To adapt to the new situation, Nadeo has decided to evolve along the way, giving players access to the online servers. Players with a free account now only have direct access to Freezone servers hosted by Nadeo. In order to be able to access another server, you must use the server favorites function. The goal of this operation is to better welcome the free players in a place that more encourages them to buy the paid game (TrackMania United Forever), while maintaining the capacity for the most enthusiastic players to access all servers. To update your account, go to the profile page in the game’s main menu. We are aware that the game cannot be bought by many (even in some nations). So we keep the solution of joining a server with the favorites list feature. This list will be reset and limited to five free accounts. A server can easily be added via a tmtp link like this “tmtp://#addfavourite=serverlogin”. FYI, about a third of connections are from paying accounts. Nadeo team is working hard to have the capacity for all concurrent players with free accounts. If we encounter unforeseen problems, we will try to quickly adapt to the situation and we apologize beforehand if we cause problems. How-To: Join a Non-FreeZone Trackmania Server
Step: Adding the server to the server favorites
Go to “Home” on our homepage and click on the “Add to Favorites” button.
This is the easiest way for our server. But you can use this tutorial for any non-freezone server you know, but you need the server login for this trick. Just copy the following link and change the server login at the end. You can then paste it into the address bar of your browser.

The browser will ask you if you want to use the Trackmania client to process the request. You can proceed.
This window looks something like this (I have a German Firefox browser, as you can see):
The game starts, you should login with your details. A message appears for a short time that the server was successfully added to the list.
EDIT: Please note that the limit of servers in the preferred servers list is 5 for free accounts. Thanks to Monika for this tip. If the list is full, you can manually delete the servers from the player page. In the second how-to on this page, you will find a small second guide on how to manually delete preferred servers.
Step: Restart the game
As the list may not update itself, you may need to restart the game. This step is not always necessary.
Step: Join the server that is now in the favorites list
Look in your favorites list, you will find the Weekly Short Hunt server. Now you can join the server.
That’s it! Now you can play on your favorite servers even if the FreeZone is not working properly or the server has no FreeZone.
I don’t know if it’s a bug but it seems to be a bug because Nadeo tried to raise more money with FreeZone and this trick doesn’t fit with those goals. But Nadeo has had years to fix it, so I think it’s okay to publish the tutorial as an official blog post for everyone.
