The nocking point of a recurve bow holds an arrow in place on the bowstring and ensures that it is shot from a constant position and with constant power.
Nocking points can be made of plastic or metal, but many archers simply tie thread knots to their strings to make their own. The advantages of this approach include that the nocking points are easy to install, replace, robust and easy to maintain.

How to Tie Nocking Points for Recurves and Longbows
Archery is all about consistent shooting and the nocking point is essential for consistency. The nocking point marks where you attach your arrow to the bowstring and holds it there as you draw and shoot.
Each bowstring requires at least one nocking point. If you go with that lone nock point, your arrow nock will sit right underneath. Although one nocking point is good, two nocking points – one on top and one on the bottom – will keep your arrow in place throughout the shot.
Nocking points can be tied with serving cord or clamped on in the case of brass. Either style will do the job. Your choice is your personal preference. This article describes how to tie nock points.
Tie a nock point
Nocking points can be tied in many ways, and each style of knot has its merits. We will discuss how to tie an adjustable nock point that is held in place with a drop of superglue.
Adjustable nocking points can rotate the string serve up and down. This feature comes in handy when setting up a new bow as it allows you to adjust your nock height without re-tying the nock point.

Step 1: Initial Nocking Point Elevation

Cut 2 feet of serving material and attach bow square to bowstring. Slide the bow square until it just touches the arrow rest. Tie a single overhand knot to mark your starting position.
For bare archers, start your nock point half an inch up unless you’re shooting a drop-away rest like the Zniper. In this case, start your nocking point 1/8 inch up.
Olympic recurve and traditional archers should start the nock point 3/8 inch up.

Tie a double overhand knot on the opposite side of the portion from your single overhand knot. Then tie an overhand double knot opposite the overhand double knot you just tied. Alternate back and forth until you’ve tied six double overhand knots on each side of the bowstring.

Tie a single overhand knot and another single overhand knot on top to secure your serving supplies. Cut off the excess material and melt the small label ends with a lighter.

Attach your arrow or just the nock to the string. Make sure the nock is pressed against your nocking point. Take your length of serving material and tie a single overhand knot about 1/16 inch below the cam. This small gap prevents pinching of the cam. Continue tying the nock point as previously described.
