Should I use expanding foam when fitting UPVC windows?
Expanding foam should never be used on upvc windows or doors although it does have a insulation value. If the seal from front and seal at the back of the window is sound then it shouldn’t be a problem for the thermal a rated windows.

FENSA said the air gap is fine. You said air insulates. However, it is important to have a good seal on the front and back of the window to prevent drafts. The former is usually silicone (low modulus) but I don’t know about the internal sealing.

Lug is a protruding piece that is used to connect, lift or support anything. By default, the fastening tab is attached to the windows and doors on the outside of the apartment and fixed inside.
The specification for lugs in frames must conform to IS 4351:2003.
Materials: The material of the steel straps used for the fastening straps must comply with IS 513 or IS 277.
Dimensional Requirements and Tolerances: There shall be three adjustable split end grommets (see Fig. 1A) on each post without transom and four for posts with transom. The head of the attachment tab must be one of the following lengths:
a. 85 mm long for use with profile A,
b. 100 mm long for use with profile B,
c. 120 mm long for use with profile C and D, and
i.e. 160 mm long for use with profile E.
Note profile see Table 1.
The head shall be made from 25 mm wide flat steel strip with a nominal thickness of 1.25 mm. The end of the eyelets for use with profiles A, B, C, D and E shall be 200mm long and shall be made of steel strip with a minimum width of 40mm and a nominal thickness of 1.25mm. The frame is attached to the R.C.C. Column side by using mounting tabs/retaining clips as shown in Fig. 1B. The specification of these fixing lugs is the same as the fixing lug above (see Fig. 1A) except that the tail length must be at least 300mm, with holes for appropriately sized installation nails to fasten the door frame with R.C.C. Pillar.
