How the Holy Spirit Can Help You Usher In a Mighty Move of God

Can you hear the voice of God over the booming distractions of our culture? (NED/Pixabay.com)

When we think about the foundations of the church, we quickly turn to the account of Jesus, his resurrection and ascension in the four gospels. But the imparting of the Holy Spirit to the body of Christ in Acts 2 is no less significant.

The coming of the Holy Spirit resulted in three enhanced abilities—understanding, seeing, and speaking—that were not only essential to the birth of the Church but continue to help it grow today.

In the book of Acts, which I often like to refer to as the acts of the Holy Spirit, we read how the Spirit of God came in like a rushing mighty wind and fell on the apostles and other believers at the meeting place. For the first time, these believers began to understand their identity as participants in the gospel and bearers of the glory of God.

While they were “seeing through a glass in the dark” (1 Corinthians 13:12b, KJV) during the life and ministry of Jesus, their eyes were finally opened to the severity of what was happening around them. First they heard a noise and understood that it came from heaven. Second, they saw flames, tongues of fire, and could see what God was doing. Eventually they spoke in other tongues through utterances given to them by the Spirit.

This Spirit-empowered perception and ability catapulted the early church from a small group of believers worshiping in secret to a worldwide movement of hundreds of millions of God’s children.

Just as “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, and today, and forever” (Hebrews 13:8, MEV), the influence of the Spirit of God in the lives of believers and unbelievers is no less powerful today than it was 2,000 years ago. Last weekend I was in the beautiful Northern Ural Mountains of Russia. Hundreds of people from across Russia filled a shrine to see the church continue to grow. They heard the voice of God; they saw the fire of God; and they exploded in praise and worship and spoke in other tongues as the Spirit expressed them. It was incredible to see.

Only the Holy Spirit can enable us to understand what He is doing, see beneath the surface, and speak out what He wills. We live in a world so full of noise that it can be almost impossible to hear the voice of God over the constant din.

With the help of the Holy Spirit, we are able not only to hear but also to understand the words of guidance, knowledge, and comfort He speaks about us. Likewise, we can use our sense of sight to see what is around us, but only the Holy Spirit can give us the ability to see what God is really doing. Anyone can speak empty or plain words, but it is another thing to speak from heaven with power and revelation.

At this time God longs to transmit His Spirit to you and your congregations to do more than hear; you will understand He wants you to do more than watch; you’ll see. You must do more than speak and teach. As you allow the Holy Spirit to speak, groan, and intercede through you, you will help usher in a mighty movement of God in your church, your country, and around the world.

Are you ready? Are you ready?

You are beautiful! I see Jesus in you.

Ushering in God’s Glory

By Donna Pickens

If we want to see God’s glory manifested in our midst, we must heed and do the Word of God. We must be willing to obey him. If we are to experience the glory of God in this generation, we must do our part. How do we do that?

First, we must be committed to God and we must obey His Word. After leading the people of Israel out of Egypt, God instructed them: “If you then really obey my voice and keep my covenant, then you will be my treasure above all peoples, for the whole earth is mine: and you shall be to me a kingdom of priests and a holy people. . . (Exodus 19:5-6).

God still says that to his people today. If we keep his word, there is no limit to what he will do for us. But we must do things God’s way, not our way. We cannot live in sin and claim the promises of God. It will not work! We cannot blame God for what happens when we disobey His Word. In John 15:7 Jesus says, “If you abide in me and my words abide in you, ask what you will, and it shall be done unto you.” Only if His word abides in us and we abide in Him, are we are entitled to ask what we desire and to see it fulfilled.

If we want God’s glory manifested in our midst, we must make sure that God has first place in our lives. In Exodus 32:1, when Moses met God on Mount Sinai to receive the law, the people of Israel turned away from God: “And when the people saw that Moses delayed coming down from the mountain, they gathered people to Aaron and said to him, Arise, make us gods that go before us; for that Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know [we do not know] what became of him.”

God wants us to serve him, not idols. We were created because God wanted someone like him to have fellowship with him. Then He gave us free will so that we could choose to love Him. This is a privilege, an honor bestowed on us, and it grieves Him when we turn our backs on Him.

To see God’s glory in this generation, we need to know that there is a price to pay if we don’t obey His word. God is a good God and He does not allow us to sin without warning us of the consequences. He tells us to obey his word because if we don’t, life will be hard for us.

When God warns us about the effects of sin, He is not trying to scare or judge us. He performs preventative maintenance to help us stay on track. He did this for the children of Israel and he is doing it for us. He invites us to heed his word so that we will not be prevented from receiving his blessings.

It’s important to remember that God will always help us – and that faith is the key to receiving His help. God is always there for us. He always wants to set us free. He will never allow us to be consumed by our circumstances if we obey his word. He does not want anyone to perish (2 Peter 3:9). It is God’s will that we prosper in all walks of life.

There is no temptation or bad situation in our lives that God does not know about. He always gives us a way out (1 Cor 10:13). But when we disobey God, we limit him. He wants us to acknowledge that He is able to deliver us from our negative circumstances. He demands that we believe in him.

If we obey God, we will experience victory and see His glory among us. While living on earth we are engaged in warfare. Ephesians 6:12 says, “We do not fight against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness on high.” But we must remember that while we are in this one world, but not of it (John 17:6,14-16). The Greater dwells within us (1 John 4:4). Because of Jesus we are more than overcomers (Romans 8:37). We have been justified; therefore we are heirs of salvation (Romans 8:17).

When we know who we are in Christ, we will experience victory. God wants to be involved in every area of our lives. He wants to take care of our needs and heal our wounds. And he is waiting for us to believe him and his word. If we do that, we will get everything we need from him.

God wants to reveal his glory in our midst. As God’s people, we are all concerned with the regular manifestation of God’s glory in our midst. We have everything to do with the movement of God in our churches.

The Lord is ready to pour out his anointing on people who will trust him, believe him and do his word. To the extent that we surrender ourselves to God and obey His Word, He will give us more than we can ever imagine. In this way we will bring his glory into our generation.

Holy Spirit Church

The ministry of the ministers is the hands and feet of the liturgy. His main task is to help the flow of the Mass from beginning to end. As ushers, we help maintain order and create proper decorum in our house of worship. Ministers attend to the needs of the congregation so that believers can experience the joy of worship.

A brief description of some of an usher’s duties includes: receiving and greeting parishioners and providing assistance with seating when needed. Ushers are responsible for preparing incense, inviting others to bring the gifts (bread and wine), and bringing out the collection baskets for offerings. We also support other ministries such as the Extraordinary Eucharistic Celebration in directing the flow of parishioners during the distribution of Holy Communion. We help distribute the weekly bulletins and other reading materials that help keep our community informed. Finally, the ushers help to maintain the sanctity of the church by arranging the offering table, ambassadors’ tables, etc. But most of all we try to put a smile on everyone’s face and try to provide a welcoming presence to all community members.
