What if the blinds are too narrow or too short? In this article, we discuss each of these issues for indoor horizontal blinds, including mini blinds, wood blinds, and imitation wood blinds. Keep in mind that any of these remedies will most likely only work if the window blinds are undersized by more than about an inch.

Blinds that are not wide enough when installed

This does not work with blinds that are too short, as the head bar falls out of the brackets. Step 1

Drill two holes through the face of the top rail about 1 inch in from each end. Use a portable power drill and a drill bit big enough to allow the screws to slide through the top rail. This will prevent the head rail from splintering as you drive the screws into the wall. Check the ratchet mechanism at the top of the head rail. If you can add a third screw hole through the center panel of the top rail without damaging the ratchet mechanism, do so. This gives the mount extra rigidity.

You can learn a lot by trying new things. For the past 18 months, I’ve switched IDEs and editors every few months, between Atom, Visual Studio, Brackets, WebStorm, and Sublime… and then back again. This has given me an appreciation for the different tools, all of which have their merits. I’ve lived in OSX most of the time and lately I’ve been loving Brackets.

Brackets is lightweight, browser-based, and has a great extension model. I feel very productive in it and can run fast and hard when I get a programming itch that I need to scratch. I feel just as fast in Sublime and Atom, but I’ve enjoyed the plugins and feel of Brackets more.

I recently published a course on Gulp at Pluralsight and presented many sessions at conferences using Brackets. One of the first questions I get is “What theme are you using?” soon followed by “What other extensions do you use for brackets?” To save time, I thought I’d post about some of my favorite bracket extensions. I love Visual Studio as an IDE (on Windows) and WebStorm (on a Mac) but for super fast editing I prefer a blazing fast editor. Then when I need more powerful functionality, I use an IDE like Visual Studio or WebStorm.

I prefer to use JSHint and JSCS and disable the default value of JSLint. Setting `linting.usePreferredOnly to true disables JSLint, which comes with brackets by default.

These look for your .jshintrc and .jscsrc files for the rules to use for linting. You can see the violated rules in a collapsible window at the bottom of the editor

Markdown editor and preview support.

When a Markdown document (with an .md or .markdown extension) is open, a Markdown icon appears in the toolbar at the top of the Brackets window. Click this icon to open the preview window.

Changes spaces when saving the document:

QuickEdit Directives, Controllers, and Services? Place your cursor over a statement in HTML, then click CMD + E for quick edits in parentheses. This extension tries to find the source code and open it in an inline window for you to edit.

In some places it works, in others it doesn’t. Although I’ll keep an eye on it as it’s great when it works.

Automatically apply the correct indent to pasted text.

Blinds consist of 2″ or 2 1/2″ or 3″ horizontal wooden slats stacked at the top of the window. Slats may be aluminum, vinyl, or wood. Common repair: tilt mechanism replacement; pull cord replacement; cord replacement of lock; replacement of the lower knob; replacement of the ladder.

1. Before you begin installation, double-check your window for obstructions. Window handles and levers can prevent blinds from hanging flat or running smoothly. If there are obstacles, consider moving your blind further away from your window.

2. Place your brackets on the UPVC window frame where your blind will hang.

3. Use a pen or pencil to mark both holes where the screws will go in your brackets.

4. Take your drill and create holes over the marks you just made.

5. Take a bracket and line up the holes with the marks you made. Place a screw across the hole in your bracket and carefully drill it into the corresponding hole in your frame, stopping before it’s tight.

6. Reorient your bracket so the second mark is visible through the second hole. Drill a screw here until fully seated.

7. Go back to your first screw and tighten until your bracket is securely attached to the wall.

8. Repeat steps 4 through 7 on your second bracket.

9. Finally, clip in the blinds and check that the mechanism works properly.

Should blinds rest on the windowsill? Yes, so that your blinds work optimally and achieve the right visual finish, blinds should rest on the windowsill. The only exception are vertical blinds, which require a small amount of free space so that the slats do not rub against the window sill when operated.

This information applies to blinds that are hung in the window niche; If they’re a hair higher than the window sill, they’ll let in light when you don’t really want it, compromise the insulating properties of the blind, and, frankly, just look a little weird.

On the other hand, if your blind is in the window alcove and rolled out long enough/far enough to sit in an overlength accordion on the window sill, that also looks like you had a few drinks before measuring. You can be your fault mitigate by stopping unrolling the blind when it reaches the window sill!

However, how far should blinds be from the window sill if they are hanging outside the niche? Should they fall flush with the threshold or be a shade longer? This question has a definitive, if slightly less obvious, answer.

In this blog post I will cover what you need to know to decide whether to hang blinds in the window alcove or above, and from there how far blinds should be from the window sill to achieve this.

How far should blinds be from the windowsill? This depends entirely on whether they are inside or outside the recess

One of the fun (annoying) things about buying blinds is that all sorts of weird and wonderful decisions crop up along the way, presenting you with options or questions you didn’t even know were a factor until you needed them to know and not.

Knowing what the “right” length for blinds is is one of them and this depends entirely on whether or not your blinds hang inside or outside the window alcove and this in turn depends on having all the information that You need to first choose either inside or outside of the recess.

Luckily, once you’ve decided on indoor or outdoor alcove hanging, the question of whether or not you want blinds to rest on the window sill answers itself:

Yes for blinds hung inside the alcove and no, it should go down about 10cm for blinds hung over or outside the alcove.

In general, we recommend sizing your blind so that there is a 10cm border on all four sides when hanging over or outside the alcove to avoid the problem of light (and heat) leakage around the edges of the blind blind around to reduce.

The choice between the inside or outside of the recess determines which length is suitable for the blinds

Placing your blinds inside or outside the alcove depends in large part on the look you want, but there’s more to it than that; Functional factors or preferences related to what you want from your blind will also contribute to the decision.

Should blinds rest on the windowsill when hung in the niche?

Yes, otherwise they look a bit strange. If you’ve outgrown your school pants faster than your mother could afford to replace them as a child and still have the occasional yelling reminder of being taunted by your peers for your ankle scratches, well that’s the life of the Spotts you adjusting your windows when your blinds don’t reach the sill.
