Copying assembly from ‘Temp/Assembly-CSharp.dll’ to ‘Library/ScriptAssemblies/Assembly-CSharp.dll’ failed UNITY3D error
The image shows the error in the editor. This error is appearing in a completely new project, before I have made any changes. This is the error I keep receiving in the Unity Editor. I have updated Unity to the latest version – 2019.1.9.f1. I am unable to use Unity because of this error. Based on other threads talking about this topic, I have tried their suggestions like :
“Reimporting all scripts”. Clearing the “Temp” folder. “Reset packages to default” option. Made exceptions in the antivirus. Also tried by removing the antivirus completely. Made changes to the project and saved it. Then reopened the project, but the error was still there.
All these suggestions could not help me solve the error. I am unable to build anything. My projects have come to a standstill.
ALSO, I had been receiving the same error for textmeshpro also. I resolved that by uninstalling the package. It’s related, but I can’t find the issue.
I am a bit desperate, and would appreciate any help in this matter.
Copying assembly failed : Unity3D
Hello, I have found several posts across the internet detailing very similar issues, but none of their solutions have worked for me, so I’m asking for you all to assist me.
Every time I try to open a project in Unity (new or otherwise), I immediately get this error:
Copying assembly from ‘Temp/UnityEngine.TestRunner.dll’ to ‘Library/ScriptAssemblies/UnityEngine.TestRunner.dll’ failed
Sometimes (although rarely lately) it is accompanied by another error that is the same except the .dll in question is UnityEngine.UI.dll
Whenever I create a script I get:
Copying assembly from ‘Temp/Assembly-CSharp.dll’ to ‘Library/ScriptAssemblies/Assembly-CSharp.dll’ failed
These errors always occur no matter how many times I reimport the script or restart Unity. I am on Windows 10 and using Unity version 2020.1.3f1, however I have experienced the exact same issue on version 2019.4.9f1.
Things I’ve Tried
Restarting Unity (many, many times)
Reinstalling Unity
Installing an older version of Unity (2019.4.9f1)
Disabling antivirus (I don’t have any except Windows Defender)
Scanning for and quarantining malware (MalwareBytes did pick up some stuff, but I’m pretty sure it was harmless and quarantining did not fix the problem)
Reimporting everything
Saving the project on the same drive as my Unity install
In the process of troubleshooting this issue I learned I had a bad RAM stick, but I isolated and removed it and am still getting this error. I am totally lost now and getting a little desperate since I need this software for a class and I am totally unable to compile anything with these errors. Assistance would be tremendously appreciated.

Copy assembly components
The Copy command creates a copy or a new instance for selected assembly components.
You can copy either the entire assembly being edited or a subset of components. You also can exclude components with the command and, with the Copy Components: File Names dialog box, generate file names for the copied components.
Attributes of the source assembly are recreated, including relationships, patterns, representations, and Flexible status. Adaptivity status is not recreated.
On the ribbon, click Assemble tab Pattern panel Copy . In the graphics window or the Assembly browser, select components to copy. The selected components are listed in the Copy Components: Status dialog box browser. Select Copy Relationships to apply the constraints and joints between the existing components to the copied components. Deselect to prevent constraints and joints from being applied to the copied components. Select Ground New Components to automatically ground the new copied components. Use the Status buttons at the top of the dialog box to change the status of all selected components. You also can click a status icon next to an individual component and cycle through status options. Creates a copy of the component. Each copied component is saved in a new file, which is not associative to the source file. Creates an instance in the current or new assembly file. Excludes the subassembly or part from the copy operation. If appropriate, click More , and cancel the selection in the Reuse Standard Content and Factory Parts check box to enable copying of library components and iParts. Click Next to open the Copy Components: File Names dialog box. In the Copy Components: File Name dialog box, review the copied files and change as needed: Click the New Name box to edit the file name. Right-click the New Name column, and choose Find to search in listed file names, or choose Replace to find and replace a string.
Right-click the File Location box to change the location from Source Path to Workspace, or User Path. If you select User Path, click in the File Location box and set the path. In general, keep the default location so the file can be located when you reopen the assembly. In the Naming Scheme box: Select the Prefix check box, and then enter a prefix if appropriate.
Select the Increment check box to add an index to all files. Files that already have an index are increased by one.
Accept the default suffix (_CPY) or enter a different suffix as needed. Clear the check box to remove the suffix. Click Apply to update the file names. If needed, click Revert to return to the original values. In the Component Destination box, choose one: Click Insert in Assembly to place components in the current assembly file.
Click Open in New Window to open a new assembly file. Click Return to Selection to change status or select new components. Otherwise, click OK to accept and close the dialog box.
