Top 10 Strongest Rank 10 Xyz Monsters in Yu-Gi-Oh

Rank 10 Monsters in Yu-Gi-Oh and How to Xyz Summon
Xyz summons have long been a fan favorite since they’re so darn accessible. These black-backgrounded creatures reside in your extra deck throughout the duel until you need them; you can summon an xyz monster by fielding two monsters of the same level, declaring your summon, and attaching them to an xyz monster of a corresponding rank. Two level four monsters can summon a rank 4, two level 6s can summon a rank 6, and so on.
Today we’re examining the fierce rank 10 monsters. These gargantuans require two level 10 monsters as material, and since most decks don’t carry an abundance of level 10s, many duelists haven’t encountered these behemoths. But when they hit the field, they leave an undeniable impact with their mighty ATK/DEF scores and lethal effects. With a handful of formidable boss monsters to choose from, which aces reign supreme? These are the 10 best rank 10 xyz monsters in Yu-Gi-Oh!
Number C92: Heart-eartH Chaos Dragon
10. Number C92: Heart-eartH Chaos Dragon
ATK: 1000
DEF:
Oh boy. Heart-eartH (yes, his name is spelled that way) has more than a few problems. While it can’t be destroyed in battle, it bears a staggeringly low 1000 ATK and 0 DEF. Even worse, it needs a total of four level 10 monsters as material! That’s simply an insane price that no duelist will ever pay, making Rank-Up spells the only real way to access Heart-eartH.
Now, he does wield a nice ability that lets you gain a corresponding number of life points whenever a monster you control inflicts battle damage to your opponent, but considering his own weak stats, even this trait relies on your other cards. Finally, if Heart-eartH has “Number 92: Heart-eartH Dragon” as material, he can (once per turn) detach an xyz material to negate the effects of all face-up cards your opponent controls until the end phase. This ability can’t be negated, but it’s too little too late and still requires having a specific material. An interesting dragon, but we’ve got bigger fish to fry.
New Order 10: Etheric Horus 1 / 2
9. New Order 10: Etheric Horus
ATK: 3500
DEF: 2500
Helpfully accepting any two level 10s as material, Etheric Horus bears a daunting 3500 ATK and great effect: once per turn, if your opponent controls more cards than you, you can detach an xyz material from Horus to have them destroy a number of cards they control that would equalize both sides of the field.
This frightening effect works similarly to the (as of this writing) current ace-trap of the metagame, Evenly Matched. Horus’s only problem is that it’s currently an anime-only card that will hopefully one day see a full release, but don’t worry, the rest of today’s list features completely-legal cards ready to fit into your deck.
Number C9: Chaos Dyson Sphere
8. Number C9: Chaos Dyson Sphere
ATK: 3600
DEF: 3200
Unfortunately, Chaos Dyson Sphere needs three level 10s as material, so it’s best accessed with Rank-Up spells. However, it wields a lethal 3600 ATK (not to mention 3200 DEF), and whenever it battles a monster, you can before damage calculation attach that monster to Dyson as material. This combos great with Dyson’s next ability, which lets you once per turn inflict 300 damage to your opponent for each material Dyson possesses.
Finally, if Dyson has “Number 9: Dyson Sphere” as material, it can also (once per turn) detach any number of materials to inflict 800 damage to your opponent for each. Doing so will weaken future activations of Dyson’s continuous effect damage, but that drawback won’t matter if the total burn damage wipes out your opponent’s life points.
Number 99: Utopic Dragon
7. Number 99: Utopic Dragon
ATK: 4000
DEF: 2000
Utopic Dragon would normally take three level 10s to summon, but his alternate summoning condition lets you instead discard a Rank-Up spell and use a Utopia monster you control as material, attaching its material (if any) to Utopic. This is a much-appreciated casting method that makes Utopic Dragon surprisingly easy to play due to the abundance of easily-summoned rank 4 Utopia creatures.
Additionally, Utopic can (once per turn) revive any Number monster from your graveyard in defense position, but its effects are negated, a neglible downside since the card won’t have xyz units to detach regardless. Finally, during either player’s turn, when a monster activates an effect that targets Utopic, he can detach a material to negate and destroy that card, an awesome barrier that guards against common link and xyz monster removals.
Superdimensional Robot Galaxy Destroyer
6. Superdimensional Robot Galaxy Destroyer
ATK: 5000
DEF: 2000
Gotta love this ridiculously-cheesy name. While Galaxy Destroyer requires three level 10s as material and doesn’t possess prior forms to Rank-Up, it compensates with a massive 5000 ATK, making it one of the game’s strongest monsters in sheer ATK power.
Even better, you can (once per turn) detach an xyz material from Destroyer to destroy all spells and traps your opponent controls. Not only does this mimic the long-banned Harpie’s Feather Duster, it actually exceeds the forbidden spell since your opponent cannot activate spell/trap cards in response to this ignition. Heavy summoning cost, but a brutal ATK and amazing spell/trap wipe keep Destroyer relevant, as does its popular monster type (qualifying for infamous type-dependent machine boosts like Limiter Removal).
Superdreadnought Rail Cannon Gustav Max
5. Superdreadnought Rail Cannon Gustav Max
ATK: 3000
DEF: 3000
Get used to these rank 10 machines; we’ve got plenty to tackle. With another ridiculous, name Gustav Max brandishes an impressive 3000 ATK and DEF, excelling in either battle position, and it’ll accept any two level 10s as material. It’s also simply one of the strongest burn damage monsters in the game, able to (once per turn) detach a material to inflict 2000 damage to your opponent.
Not only can this wipe out 4000 life points over two turns, it doesn’t (unlike many effect damage traits) prevents Gustav from attacking for the rest of the turn, letting you add insult to severe injury. And don’t forget those handy machine-type shenanigans!
Skypalace Gangaridai
4. Skypalace Gangaridai
ATK: 3400
DEF: 3000
Similar to Gustav Max, Skypalace takes any two level 10s as material and bears 3000 DEF, but gets a boost in ATK to 3400. He can also (once per turn) detach a material to both destroy an opposing card and inflict 1000 damage to your opponent if the destruction succeeds.
This is only half the effect damage Max can inflict, and Skypalace can’t attack the turn it triggers it ability. However, being able to reduce your opponent’s field while landing the damage lends extra versatility, and Skypalace’s boosted ATK helps it overcome the bountiful 3000-ATK aces you’re likely to face (such as Blue-Eyes White Dragon, Darkest Diabolos Lord of the Lair, and so on).
Number 81: Superdreadnought Rail Cannon Super Dora
3. Number 81: Superdreadnought Rail Cannon Super Dora
ATK: 3200
DEF: 4000
Yet another rank 10 machine you can cast with any two level 10s, Super Dora bears a daunting 3200 ATK but packs an even-better 4000 DEF, stalling indefinitely against just about anything when needed.
Additionally, Super Dora can (as a quick-play effect on either turn) detach an xyz unit to target any face-up monster and render it immune to other card effects, other than its own, for the rest of the turn. This provides a stellar shield that basically grants a monster temporary invincibility, can activate on either turn, and can target your other monsters if you need to protect them more than Dora. An impressive titan, but Super Dora’s not the only rank 10 who can’t be touched by opposing effects…
Raidraptor – Ultimate Falcon
2. Raidraptor – Ultimate Falcon
ATK: 3500
DEF: 2000
Needing three level 10s with a specific type (Winged-Beast) as material, Ultimate Falcon is designed to be played using Rank-Ups on lower-rank Raidraptor cards. Luckily, it more than compensates with a stellar 3500 ATK and great ability: Ultimate Falcon is constantly unaffected by other card effects (without having to detach material!), making it almost impossible to remove. Additionally, it can detach a material to lower the ATK of all opposing monsters by 1000 as well as prevent your opponent from activating cards/effects for the rest of the turn, clearing the path for a massive offensive.
Finally, if Ultimate Falcon has a Raidraptor as material, it (once per turn, during the end phase) makes opposing monsters lose 1000 ATK, and if your opponent controls no monsters, they instead suffer 1000 damage. This gurauntees either monster dampening or effect damage and rounds out an already-monstrous titan. If you’re using Raidraptors, Ultimate Falcon is your ultimate strategy—get him out (try “Waking the Dragon”) and you’ve likely won.
Number 35: Ravenous Tarantula
1. Number 35: Ravenous Tarantula
ATK: 0
DEF: 0
Ultimate Falcon operates at the top of the Raidraptor archetype, but Ravenous Tarantula is available to any series who bears level 10s. Accepting any two as material, Tarantula provides all monsters you control (including itself) a boost in ATK and DEF equal to the difference in life points between you and your opponent. This can range from zero to ten thousand or more, but typically averages a few thousand, still a significant boost that empowers your entire squad.
Additionally, as long as Tarantula has xyz material, your opponent receives 600 damage whenever they special summon, punishing them for accessing their extra deck, using pendulums, or wielding other special summon tricks. Finally, you can (once per turn) detach a material from Tarantula to destroy all opposing monsters with ATK equal to or less than its own, an awesome field-wipe similar to Raigeki that further rewards you for creating a big gap between your life points and your adversary’s. This ability also doesn’t target, bypassing even shrouded foes.
Many rank 10 machines offer high ATK scores and effect damage, but none can boost the power of your entire team like Tarantula while still providing burn damage and monster removal. I’ve surprised many unsuspecting opponents with Tarantula to finish their life points in one turn using a buffed army, but despite its prowess, Tarantula is surprisingly cheap (especially for an extra deck card), costing under two dollars!
Fielding Rank 10 Monsters
Playing two level 10 monsters to serve as fuel may seem difficult, but crafty duelists can meet the criteria by using easily-summoned level 10 cards like Tragoedia or Metal Reflect Slime. The Rank-Up magic spells also help access rank 10 monsters from weaker xyz creatures, meaning these titans aren’t as inaccessible as they may seem.
Get one of these guys out, and unless your opponent has a handy removal ready, they’ll soon fall to your champion’s unparalleded assault. Hopefully Konami will release a few more rank 10s to increase our bare-bones options, but for now, as we eagerly await the next xyz expansion set, vote for your favorite monster and I’ll see you at our next Yu-Gi-Oh countdown!
