As an NLP trainer, I am always asked, “How can I make money with NLP?”

I remember starting out in this field. As the owner of my own software company, I was already savvy in business and marketing, so I was able to make six figures in my first year in NLP. One of the biggest ways I help struggling NLP Practitioners, NLP Master Practitioners and NLP Trainers these days is to teach them business skills so they can be successful with their NLP skills…

One of the worst ways to approach this business is to do what everyone else is doing. You need to be unique, and it’s usually better to choose a specific niche to cater to. Instead of being a “jack of all trades”, you can be an “ace of a”.

Here are five unique ways you can make money in the NLP field (note that legally none of these recommendations is a promise or a guarantee of income, but rather my opinion based on my personal experience and the experience of others):

1. Earn money with NLP as a coach

People are jumping on the “enterprise” ship like crazy and more and more people are becoming business owners these days.

What does that mean? Imagine a new pilot trying to navigate and land in a busy airport without “air traffic control”. That’s what being a new entrepreneur is like for most people.

Making that big leap can be daunting, and entrepreneurs don’t always have supportive relationships to lean on.

Therefore, today there is a growing demand for success and business coaches worldwide.

The advantages as a coach are enormous:

Work from anywhere in the world

Set your own hours

Set your own price

Coaches help their clients:

Define the results you want

Set deadlines and deadlines

Set goals and break down big goals into small, achievable tasks

Provide perspective and see things that the client may not see themselves

Listen and help the client challenge limiting beliefs

Help your customers stay accountable so they do what they promise week after week

2. Make money with NLP as a practitioner

NLP gives you such a full tool belt that you can work with people on almost anything that might bother them.

And the nice thing is that there are people looking for NLP practitioners specifically in metropolitan areas, so there’s something of a built-in market.

Most practitioners work individually in an office, but most NLP can be done over the phone or Skype from anywhere in the world.

The difference between a coach and a consultant is that a coach never tells people what to do (coaches help clients find their own answers), while consultants provide expertise and advice.

For example, as a business consultant, I provide members of my Inner Circle coaching program with specific marketing advice and strategies to help them grow their businesses. I also teach my clients how to create automated business systems so they have more time and freedom while making even more money.

If you have specific knowledge from a previous field you worked in or from your education (mine is marketing and technology), you can use it to make even more money as a consultant.

4. Make money with NLP as an author

The amount of knowledge that you will absorb and internalize in an NLP Practitioner training is overwhelming.

Because NLP training courses combine accelerated learning, unconscious NLP teaching principles, and layered learning, people often report learning more actionable knowledge from NLP practitioners than anywhere else.

With the wealth of knowledge you will have, there is plenty of material for you to start writing your own book.

Remember that top strategist and public speaker Tony Robbins is trained in little more than NLP, but was able to publish his books (Unlimited Power and Awaken the Giant Within) with little more than his NLP practitioner knowledge.

Why do we need NLP?

Language is highly ambiguous – it relies on subtle cues and context to convey meaning. Computers struggle immensely to resolve ambiguities. As a result, they fight the uphill battle of interpreting meaning without a full understanding of the context, e.g. like common sense and culture.

In everyday conversations, we convey meaning without thinking about how our brain converts so much unstructured data into useful information. However, it is very difficult for machines to understand human speech and speech.

Pseudoscientific approach to communication, personality development and psychotherapy

Not to be confused with Natural Language Processing (also NLP).

Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) is a pseudoscientific approach to communication, personal development, and psychotherapy developed in the 1970s by Richard Bandler and John Grinder in California, United States. The creators of NLP claim that there is a connection between neurological processes (neuro), language (linguistic) and patterns of behavior learned through experience (programming) and that these can be modified to achieve specific life goals.[1][2] :2 Bandler and Grinder also claim that the NLP methodology can “model” the skills of exceptional people so that anyone can acquire those skills.[3]:5–6[4] They also claim that NLP is often done in a single session can treat problems such as phobias, depression, tic disorders, psychosomatic diseases, myopia,[5] allergy, cold[a] and learning disabilities.[7][8] NLP has been adopted by some hypnotherapists and also by companies who run seminars marketed as leadership training for corporations and government agencies.[9][10]

There is no scientific evidence to support the claims of NLP proponents and it has been discredited as pseudoscience.[11][12][13] Scientific reviews state that NLP is based on outdated metaphors of how the brain works that are inconsistent with current neurological theory and contain numerous factual errors.[10][14] Reviews also found that all supporting research on NLP contained significant methodological flaws and that there were three times as many studies of much higher quality that failed to reproduce the “extraordinary claims” made by Bandler, Grinder, and other NLP practitioners. 12][13]

According to Bandler and Grinder, NLP includes a methodology called modeling, along with a set of techniques they derived from their original applications.[3]:6[15] Of such methods, considered fundamental, many derive from them from the work of Virginia Satir, Milton Erickson and Fritz Perls.[16]: 8

Bandler and Grinder also drew on the theories of Gregory Bateson, Alfred Korzybski, and Noam Chomsky (especially transformational grammar),[3]:6[17][18] and ideas and techniques of Carlos Castaneda.[19]:41

Bandler and Grinder claim that their methodology can codify the structure of therapeutic “magic” as performed in the therapy of Perls, Satir and Erickson, and indeed inherent in every complex human activity, and then from that codification the structure and its activity can be learned from others. Her 1975 book, The Structure of Magic I: A Book about Language and Therapy, is said to be a codification of Perls and Satir’s therapeutic techniques.[3]: 6

Bandler and Grinder say they used their own modeling process to model Virginia Satir so they could create what they called the Meta-Model, a model for gathering information and challenging the language and underlying thinking of a Clients.[3]: 6 [20] They claim that by challenging linguistic distortions, specifying generalizations, and recovering deleted information in the client’s statements, the transformational grammar concepts of surface structure yield a more complete account of the underlying deep structure, and therefore a therapeutic one benefit.[21][22] Also derived from satir were anchoring, future tempo, and systems of representation.[23]

In contrast, the Milton model—a model of Milton Erickson’s supposedly hypnotic language—has been described by Bandler and Grinder as “artfully vague” and metaphorical.[6]:240 The Milton model, in combination with the meta-model, is described as Emollients to induce “trance” and provide indirect therapeutic suggestion.[24]

Psychologist Jean Mercer writes that Chomsky’s theories “appear to be irrelevant” to NLP.[25] Linguist Karen Stollznow describes Bandler and Grinder’s reference to such experts as name dropping. Satir aside, the people they cite as influences didn’t collaborate with Bandler or Grinder. Chomsky himself has nothing to do with NLP at all; His original work was intended as theory, not therapy. Stollznow writes: “Other than borrowing the terminology, NLP bears no authentic resemblance to any of Chomsky’s theories or philosophies – linguistically, cognitively, or politically.”[17]

According to André Muller Weitzenhoffer, a researcher in the field of hypnosis, “The main weakness of Bandler and Grinder’s linguistic analysis is that so much of it rests on untested hypotheses and is supported by grossly inadequate data.”[26]: 304 Weitzenhoffer adds add that Bandler and Grinder abuse formal logic and mathematics,[26]: 300–1 redefining or misunderstanding terms from the linguistic lexicon (e.g. assertions,[26]: 307 make factual errors,[26]: 306 and disregard or confuse Concepts central to the Ericksonian approach.[26]: 306

More recently (circa 1997) Bandler has asserted: “NLP is based on figuring out what works and formalizing it. To formalize patterns I have used everything from linguistics to holography… The models that make up NLP are all based on formal mathematical, logical principles such as predicate calculus and the mathematical equations that underlie holography.”[27] It however, there is no mention of the mathematics of holography, or holography in general, in McClendon’s,[19] Spitzer,[23] or Grinder’s[28 ] account of the development of NLP.

Regarding the development of NLP, Grinder recalls:[29]

My recollection of what we were thinking at the time of discovery (regarding the classical code we were developing – that is, the years 1973 to 1978) is that we were pretty clear that we were out to overthrow a paradigm , and that we, for example, I for one found it very useful to plan this campaign, drawing in part on Thomas Kuhn’s excellent work (The Structure of Scientific Revolutions), in which he describes in detail some of the conditions that historically have arisen amidst paradigm shifts. For example, I think it was very useful that neither of us were qualified in the field we first pursued – psychology and particularly its therapeutic application; This is one of the conditions identified by Kuhn in his historical study of paradigm shifts.

Philosopher Robert Todd Carroll countered that Grinder did not understand Kuhn’s text on the history and philosophy of science, The Structure of Scientific Revolutions. Carroll replies: (a) Individual scientists are never able to voluntarily induce paradigm shifts, and Kuhn suggests nothing else; (b) Kuhn’s text does not contain the idea that lack of skill in a field of science is a prerequisite for achieving a result that requires a paradigm shift in that field, and (c) The structure of scientific revolutions is primarily a work of the History and not an instructive text to create paradigm shifts and such a text is not possible – extraordinary discovery is not a formulaic procedure. Carroll explains that a paradigm shift is not a planned activity but a result of scientific efforts within the current (dominant) paradigm that produces data that cannot be adequately accounted for within the current paradigm – hence a paradigm shift, i.e. adoption of a new paradigm.

In developing NLP, Bandler and Grinder neither responded to a paradigmatic crisis in psychology nor produced any data that caused a paradigmatic crisis in psychology. There’s no sense in which Bandler and Grinder caused or participated in a paradigm shift. “What have grinders and bandlers done that makes it impossible to continue doing psychology…without embracing their ideas?” Nothing,” argues Carroll.[30]

commercialization and evaluation

By the late 1970’s the human potential movement had grown into an industry and created a market for some NLP ideas. Central to this growth was the Esalen Institute in Big Sur, California. Perls had conducted numerous Gestalt therapy seminars at Esalen. Satir was an early leader and Bateson was a visiting teacher. Bandler and Grinder claimed that NLP was not only a therapeutic method, but also a communication degree, and began to market it as a business tool, claiming, “If one person can do anything, so can you.”[20] After that, 150 students paid $1,000 each for a ten-day workshop in Santa Cruz, Calif., Bandler and Grinder abandoned academic writing and produced popular seminar-tracing books such as Frogs into Princes, which sold more than 270,000 copies. According to court documents related to an intellectual property dispute between Bandler and Grinder, Bandler made more than $800,000 from workshop and book sales in 1980.[20]

A community of psychotherapists and students began to form around the early work of Bandler and Grinder, leading to the growth and spread of NLP as theory and practice.[31] For example, Tony Robbins trained with Grinder and used some ideas from NLP as part of his own self-help and motivational speaking programs.[32] Bandler made several unsuccessful attempts to ban other parties from using NLP.[33] Meanwhile, the increasing number of practitioners and theorists meant that NLP became even less unified than when it was founded.[17] Prior to NLP’s demise, academic researchers began empirically testing its theoretical underpinnings, with research pointing to a lack of empirical support for NLP’s core theories.[13] The 1990s were marked by fewer scientific studies evaluating the methods of NLP than the previous decade. Tomasz Witkowski attributes this to a declining interest in the debate due to the lack of empirical support for NLP from its proponents.[13]

Main components and core concepts

NLP can be understood in terms of three major components and their core concepts:

Subjectivity. According to Bandler and Grinder: We experience the world subjectively, so we create subjective representations of our experience. These subjective representations of experience are constituted by five senses and language. That is, our subjective conscious experience with respect to the traditional senses of sight, hearing, touch, smell, and taste is such that when we rehearse an activity “in our head,” for example, we are remembering an event or anticipating the future “Seeing” images, “hearing” sounds, “tasting” tastes, “feeling” tactile sensations, “smelling” odors and thinking in any (natural) language. [34] [2] : 13–14 It is also claimed that these subjective representations of experience have a recognizable structure, a pattern. In this sense, NLP is sometimes defined as the study of the structure of subjective experience. [2] : 7 Behavior can be described and understood in terms of these sense-based subjective representations. Behavior is broadly understood to include verbal and non-verbal communication, incompetent, maladjusted, or “pathological” behavior, and effective or skillful behavior. According to Bandler and Grinder: Consciousness. NLP is based on the idea that consciousness is divided into a conscious and an unconscious component. These subjective representations that occur outside of an individual’s conscious mind comprise what is termed the “unconscious mind”. [2] : 77-80

According to a study by Steinbach[38], a classic interaction in NLP can be understood in several main stages, including establishing a relationship, gathering information about a problematic mental state and desired goals, using specific tools and techniques to carry out interventions, and the integration proposed changes in the client’s life. The entire process is guided by the client’s non-verbal responses.[38] The first is the act of establishing and maintaining a relationship between the practitioner and the client, which is accomplished through the pacing and direction of the client’s verbal (eg, response to eye movements).[16]: 8, 15, 24, 30, 45, 52, 149

Once rapport is established, the practitioner can gather information (e.g., using the meta-model questions) about the client’s current state as well as help the client define a desired state or goal for the interaction. The practitioner pays particular attention to the verbal and non-verbal responses while the client defines the current state and the desired state and any “resources” that may be required to bridge the gap.[38] The client is usually encouraged to consider the consequences of the desired outcome and how it may affect their personal or professional life and relationships, taking into account any positive intentions of any problems that may arise (e.g. ecological audit). [38] Fourth, the practitioner assists the client in achieving desired outcomes by using specific tools and techniques to alter internal representations and responses to stimuli in the world.[39][40] Finally, the changes are “forward-looking” by helping the client mentally rehearse the changes and integrate them into their lives.[38] For example, the client may be asked to “go into the future” and represent (mentally see, hear, and feel) what it is like to have already achieved the outcome.

According to Stollznow, “NLP also includes marginal discourse analysis and “practical” guidelines for “enhanced” communication. For example, one text claims, “If you adopt the ‘but’ word, people will remember what you said afterwards. With the “and” word, people remember what you said before and after.”[17]

NLP has been promoted with claims that it can be used to treat a variety of diseases, including Parkinson’s disease, HIV/AIDS and cancer.[41] Such claims have no supporting medical evidence.[41] People who use NLP as a form of treatment risk serious health consequences as it can delay the delivery of effective medical care.[41]

Early books on NLP had a psychotherapeutic focus as the early models were psychotherapists. As an approach to psychotherapy, NLP shares similar core assumptions and underpinnings in common with some contemporary brief and systemic practices,[42][43][44] such as solution-focused brief therapy.[45][46] NLP has also been recognized as influencing these practices[44][47] with its reframing techniques[48][49] that attempt to achieve behavioral change by shifting their context or meaning,[50] for Example by finding the positive connotation of a thought or behavior.

The two main therapeutic applications of NLP are, first, as a complement by therapists[51] practicing in other therapeutic disciplines, and second, as a specific therapy termed neurolinguistic psychotherapy.[52]

According to Stollznow, “Bandler and Grinder’s infamous Frogs into Princes and their other books boast that NLP is a panacea that treats a wide range of physical and mental illnesses and learning disabilities, including epilepsy, myopia and dyslexia. With its promise of healing schizophrenia, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder, and its dismissal of psychiatric disorders as psychosomatic, NLP shares similarities with Scientology and the Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR).”[17] A systematic review of experimental studies by Sturt et al) came concludes that “there is little evidence that NLP interventions improve health-related outcomes.”[53] In his review of NLP, Stephen Briers writes: “NLP is not really a coherent therapy, but a hodgepodge of different techniques with no particularly clear ones The theory basis … [and its] evidence base is virtually non-existent.”[54] Eisner writes: “NLP appears to be a superficial and gimmicky approach to dealing with mental health problems in MS. Unfortunately, NLP appears to be the first in a long line of mass marketing seminars that purport to cure virtually every mental disorder… it appears that NLP has no empirical or scientific support as to the underlying tenets of its theory or clinical efficacy. What remains is a mass-marketed serving of psychopalum.”[55]

André Muller Weitzenhoffer – a friend and colleague of Milton Erickson – wrote: “Has NLP really abstracted and explained the essence of successful therapy and given everyone the opportunity to be another Whittaker, Virginia Satir or Erickson? … [NLPs] failure to do so is obvious because there aren’t many like them today, not even another Whittaker, Virginia Satir, or Erickson. Ten years should have been enough to do this. In that light, I cannot take NLP seriously… [NLP’s] contributions to our understanding and use of Ericksonian techniques are equally dubious. Patterns I and II are poorly written works that were an overambitious, pretentious attempt to reduce hypnosis to a magic of words.”[26]: 305

Clinical psychologist Stephen Briers questions the value of the NLP maxim – a premise in NLP jargon – “there is no failure, only feedback”.[56] Briers argues that denying the existence of failure diminishes its instructive value. It features Walt Disney, Isaac Newton and J.K. Rowling as three examples of clearly recognized personal failure that served as the impetus for great success. According to Briers, it was “the crash-and-burn type of failure, not the cleaned-up NLP error-lite, i. H. the kind of failure that isn’t really failure” that drove these individuals to success. Briers claims that adherence to the maxim leads to self-mockery. According to Briers, personal effort is a product of invested values ​​and aspirations and denial of personally significant mistakes, since mere feedback effectively belittles what one values. Briers writes, “Sometimes we must accept and mourn the death of our dreams, rather than simply dismissing them as irrelevant.” Briers also contends that the NLP maxim is narcissistic, egocentric, and divorced from notions of moral responsibility.[57]

Other uses

Although the original core techniques of NLP were therapeutic in nature, their generic nature allowed them to be applied to other areas. These applications include persuasion,[33] sales,[58] negotiation,[59] management training,[60] sports,[61] teaching, coaching, team building, public speaking, and the employee hiring process.[62]

In the early 1980s, NLP was promoted as a major advance in psychotherapy and counseling and sparked some interest in counseling research and clinical psychology. However, as controlled studies have shown no benefit from NLP and its proponents have made increasingly dubious claims, scientific interest in NLP has waned.[63][64]

Numerous literature reviews and meta-analyses have found no evidence for the assumptions or effectiveness of NLP as a therapeutic method.[b] While some NLP practitioners have argued that the lack of empirical support is due to insufficient research testing NLP,[c] the consensus of scholarly opinion is that NLP is pseudoscience[d][e] and that attempts to dismiss the research findings on the basis of these arguments “represent an admission that NLP has no evidence base and that NLP practitioners, after a post-hoc Credibility.”[81][82]

Surveys of the academic community have shown that NLP is widely discredited among scientists.[f] One of the reasons for considering NLP a pseudoscience is that the evidence for it is limited to anecdotes and personal testimonies[22][86]. that it is not informed by scientific understanding of neuroscience and linguistics,[22][87] and that the name “neuro-linguistic programming” uses jargon to impress readers and obfuscate ideas, while NLP itself does not relate phenomena to neural structures and has nothing in common with linguistics or programming.[13][88][89][71][g] In fact, NLP has been used in education as a key example of pseudoscience.[77][78][79]

As a quasi-religion

Sociologists and anthropologists – among others – have categorized NLP as a quasi-religion belonging to the New Age and/or Human Potential movements.[91][92][93][94][95][96] [97][98]. ][99][100] Medical anthropologist Jean M. Langford categorizes NLP as a form of folk magic; that is, a practice with symbolic efficacy—as opposed to physical efficacy—capable of effecting change through non-specific effects (e.g., placebo). For Langford, NLP is akin to a syncretic folk religion “that seeks to combine the magic of folk practice with the science of occupational medicine”.[101] Bandler and Grinder were and continue to be[102][103]) influenced by the shamanism described in the books of Carlos Castaneda. Several ideas and techniques have been borrowed from Castaneda and incorporated into NLP, including the so-called “double induction”[19]: 41 and the notion of “stopping the world”[104], which is central to NLP modelling. Tye (1994)[86] characterizes NLP as a kind of “psycho-shamanism”. Fanthorpe and Fanthorpe (2008)[105] see a similarity between the mimetic process and intent of NLP modeling and aspects of ritual in some syncretic religions. Hunt (2003)[91] draws a comparison between the concern about descent from an NLP guru – evident in some NLP proponents – and the concern about guru descent in some Eastern religions.

In Aupers and Houtman (2010)[95] Bovbjerg identifies NLP as a New Age “psycho-religion” and uses NLP as a case study to demonstrate the thesis that the New Age psycho-religions, like NLP, are based on an intrinsic Religiosity is based on an idea, namely preoccupation with a transcendent “other”. In the monotheistic religions of the world, Bovbjerg argues, the purpose of religious practice is fellowship and communion with a transcendent “other,” i.e., a God. In New Age psychoreligions, Bovbjerg argues, this orientation to a transcendent “other” persists, but the “other” has become “the other within ourselves,” the so-called “unconscious”: “The inner life of the individual becomes becomes the immaterial focus of [psycho-]religious practices and the subconscious becomes a part of modern people’s self-understanding.”[106] Bovbjerg adds: “Personality development courses would make no sense without an unconscious that contains hidden resources and knowledge of the self. [citation needed] Thus, psycho-religious practice revolves around notions of the conscious and unconscious self, and communication with and access to the hidden resources of the unconscious self—the transcendent “other.” According to Bovbjerg, many NLP techniques are either explicitly or implicitly based on the idea that we have an unconscious self. Bovbjerg argues, “Through certain practices, the [NLP practitioner as] psychoreligious practitioner expects to achieve self-perfection in a never-ending transformation of the self.” [citation needed]

Bovbjerg’s secular critique of NLP finds an echo in the conservative New Age Christian perspective as advanced by Jeremiah (1995)[107] who argues: ‘The ‘recommended by the founders and leaders of these business seminars [like NLP]’ Transformation’ has spiritual implications that a non-Christian or new believer may not realize. The belief that people can transform themselves by calling upon the power (or God) within themselves or their own infinite human potential is at odds with the Christian view. The Bible says man is a sinner and is saved by God’s grace alone.

Intellectual Property Disputes

At the end of 1980 the collaboration between Bandler and Grinder ended.[20] On September 25, 1981, Bandler instituted a civil lawsuit against Grinder and his company, seeking injunctive relief and damages for Grinder’s business dealings related to NLP. On October 29, 1981, a decision was made in Bandler’s favour.[108] As part of a settlement agreement, Bandler granted Grinder a limited 10-year license to conduct NLP seminars, offer certifications in NLP, and use the NLP name, provided royalties are paid to Bandler from proceeds from the seminars. In July 1996 and January 1997, Bandler initiated two more civil lawsuits against Grinder and his company, numerous other prominent NLP figures, and 200 other initially unnamed individuals. Bandler alleged that Grinder violated the terms of the settlement agreement reached in the original case and suffered commercial damage as a result of the defendants’ alleged illegal commercial activities. Bandler sought damages of not less than $10,000,000.00 from each defendant.[109][110] In February 2000, the court ruled against Bandler, finding that “Bandler misrepresented to the public, through his licensing agreement and promotional materials, that he is the exclusive owner of all intellectual property rights related to NLP and retains exclusive decision-making authority over membership and certification in the Society.” of NLP.”[111][112]

Stollznow (2010)[17] comments on this topic: “[I]ronically, in the 1980s, bandlers and grinders fought over trademark and theory disputes. Significantly, none of their myriad NLP models, pillars, and principles helped these founders resolve their personal and professional conflicts.”

In December 1997, Tony Clarkson instituted civil proceedings against Bandler to revoke Bandler’s British trademark NLP. The court ruled in favor of Clarkson; Bandler’s trademark was subsequently revoked.[113][114]

If you’re an NLP practitioner, you’ve probably received similar questions.

Here’s an explanation:

Hypnosis is a specific set of tools and techniques that help you enter a trance-like state (in simple terms, your conscious mind says goodbye).

NLP, on the other hand, has no formal induction. It does not use the same tools and techniques as hypnosis as both your conscious and subconscious are involved.

When NLP was discovered, the early pioneers looked at and modeled hypnosis. But NLP alone is not necessarily hypnosis. That is why we teach both modalities together in our NLP Master Practitioner training. We’ll also show you how to know which one to use with a client based on what your client benefits most from.

Neurolinguistic programming is a way of changing a person’s thoughts and behaviors to get desired results for them. The popularity of neuro-linguistic programming, or NLP, has been widespread since its inception in the 1970s. Its uses include treating phobias and anxiety disorders and improving job performance or personal happiness. This article examines the theory behind NLP and what evidence there is for its practice.

What is NLP? Share on Pinterest NLP can be used for personal development, phobias and anxiety. NLP uses perceptual, behavioral, and communication techniques to make it easier for people to change their thoughts and actions. NLP relies on language processing but should not be confused with natural language processing, which uses the same acronym. NLP was developed by Richard Bandler and John Grinder, who believed it was possible to identify the thought and behavior patterns of successful people and teach them to others. Despite the lack of empirical evidence, Bandler and Grinder published two books, The Structure of Magic I and II, and NLP took off. Part of its popularity was due to its versatility in treating the many different problems people face.

How does it work? The different interpretations of NLP make it difficult to define. It is based on the idea that humans operate with internal “maps” of the world that they learn through sensory experiences. NLP seeks to recognize and modify unconscious biases or limitations of an individual’s world map. NLP is not hypnotherapy. Instead, it works through the conscious use of language to bring about changes in a person’s thoughts and behavior. For example, a central feature of NLP is the idea that a person is aligned with a sensory system known as the Preferred Representational System, or PRS. Therapists can recognize this preference through language. Phrases like “I see what you mean” can signal a visual PRS. Or “I hear your point” can signal an auditory PRS. An NLP practitioner will identify a person’s PRS and build their therapeutic framework around that. The framework could involve building relationships, gathering information and setting goals with them.

Techniques NLP is a broad field of practice. As such, NLP practitioners use many different techniques, including the following: One of the techniques of NLP is to try to remove negative thoughts and feelings associated with a past event. Examples NLP is used as a method of personality development by promoting skills such as self-reflection, self-confidence and communication. Practitioners have used NLP commercially to achieve work-oriented goals such as: B. Improved productivity or professional development. More widely, it has been used as a therapy for mental disorders, including phobias, depression, generalized anxiety disorder or GAD, and post-traumatic stress disorder or PTSD.

Does NLP work? Share on Pinterest Until now, there hasn’t been any rigorous research to prove the effectiveness of NLP. Determining the effectiveness of NLP is challenging for several reasons. NLP has not been subjected to the same scientific rigor as more established therapies such as cognitive behavioral therapy or CBT. The lack of formal regulation and NLP’s commercial value mean that claims of its effectiveness can be anecdotal or supplied by an NLP provider. NLP providers will have a financial interest in the success of NLP, so their evidence is difficult to use. Additionally, scientific research on NLP has yielded mixed results. Some studies have found benefits associated with NLP. For example, a study published in the journal Counseling and Psychotherapy Research found that psychotherapy patients improved mental symptoms and quality of life after NLP compared to a control group. However, a review of 10 available studies on NLP published in the British Journal of General Practice was less favourable. It concluded that there is little evidence of NLP’s effectiveness in treating health-related conditions, including anxiety disorders, weight control and substance abuse. This was more due to the limited amount and quality of research studies available than evidence showing that NLP didn’t work. In 2014, a report by the Canadian Agency for Drugs and Technology in Health found no clinical evidence of NLP’s effectiveness in treating PTSD, GAD, or depression. However, another research report published in 2015 found that NLP therapy has a positive effect on individuals with social or mental health problems, although the authors said more research was needed. The theoretical basis for NLP has also been criticized for lacking evidence-based support. A paper published in 2009 concluded that after three decades, the theories behind NLP still lack credibility and the evidence for its effectiveness is only anecdotal. A 2010 review article attempted to assess the research findings in relation to the theories behind NLP. Of the 33 included studies, only 18 percent were found to support the underlying theories of NLP. So, despite more than 4 decades of its existence, neither the effectiveness of NLP nor the validity of the theories have been unequivocally proven by solid research. It’s also worth noting that the research has been conducted primarily in therapeutic settings, with few studies of NLP’s effectiveness in commercial settings. Investigating how well NLP works also has several practical problems that compound the lack of clarity surrounding the subject. For example, it is difficult to directly compare studies because of the range of different methods, techniques, and outcomes.

Becoming an NLP practitioner means you always have the tools to let go of what doesn’t serve you and it’s definitely a lifestyle because you have to commit to work. The better you get at work and let go of what’s holding you back, the easier and more fun it becomes to help your clients. You will be able to get a few steps ahead of them and show them the way to create a life of complete emotional freedom, ease and grace.

After completing your NLP practitioner certification training, congratulate yourself and get ready to start generating income. I show my clients how to start attracting private sessions for $300 plus an hour. Individual sessions are a great way to learn the technique and earn some extra money that can help you add payment plans to your program. You can also think of a transformation that you have undergone in your own life and create a program that will surround that, and then you will begin to attract the people who want the same transformation that you have achieved.
